Rod is teaching his dog some tricks when you arrive for a visit. He mentions that he would like to take a look at your chickens, so the two of you head back to the farm.
Inside your Coop, Rod mentions how cute the chickens are, but they must be hard to take care of!
Option 1: Much harder than a regular pet
Well, Rod counters by explaining that pets need quite a lot of work as well. He understands that chickens require a lot of care, but you could of put it in a better way. Rod apologizes if you are upset. It looks like things are tough for you and he doesn't want to get in your way, so he decides to go home.
Result: -2000 FP
Option 2: Want to give it a try?
You explain how to take care of chickens. Rod gives it a try, but the chicken becomes annoyed at him. Rod figured it would be tough! It was a lot of fun though and he thanks you for teaching him.
Result: +3000 FP

Purple Heart Event

Rod comes over an invites you to a picnic. The two of you head out to the Mountain area.
He's excited and walks up towards the summit. You are following behind him, but you're getting a little tired. Rod notices that you're dragging behind and asks if you need a break.
Option 1: We're so close. I'm okay!
The two of you press on and eventually make it up to the top of the hill.
Rod lays out the picnic and invites you to eat up. You're a little nervous about his cooking abilities, but he explains that he lives alone so he does know how to cook. You eat Rod's tasty lunch, and he's glad that you like it. Rod thinks that having a boyfriend like him could really help you out. Did he say that out loud? Oh, don't worry about it. Rod hopes to go out with you again soon.
Result: +3000 FP
Option 2: I need... need a break.
Rod suggests to stop at the river, as it is just as nice as the summit. You sit down for a moment and end up falling asleep!
As it gets closer to evening, Rod decides to wake you up. You were sleeping so peacefully and he just couldn't bring himself to wake you up. He'll have a picnic with you some other time. You feel bad for taking his time, but Rod explains that he took a walk while you were sleeping, so don't worry about it.
Result: -2000 FP

You must give Rod a Ring before you can see the rest of his heart events. Give him a Ring on Saturday or Sunday, Sunny weather, between 8:00 am and 11:00 pm. Rod must be at a blue heart color or higher.

Rod is grumbling in front of his bookshelf. He explains that he needs to know a lot about dogs, horses, and cats, but helping you take care of the chicken reminded he knows almost nothing on how to take care of birds. Rod has been reading about all types of animals, but realizes that books aren't simply enough. The more he reads, the more he recognizes that he just doesn't know enough about animals! Rod feels inadequate and pathetic that he runs a pet shop and yet doesn't know all the things he feels he should of known.
Rod is looking pretty depressed. What should you say?
Option 1: I'll study with you
You'll really help him study? With you by his side, Rod thinks he can do better. The two of you read a book together.
Result: +3000
Option 2: I'll teach you
Rod is happy that you're willing to teach him and explains how he would care for chickens. It doesn't sound like he's doing it right. Rod assumes that maybe you don't know and so he leaves to go ask Neil.
Result: -2000 FP, +1 AP,
Option 3: Try looking after some animals
Looking after an animal is probably the best way to learn. Rod has a friend who works at a zoo, and so maybe his friend would allow him to look after some different animals. Rod is happy that you're encouraging him to keep trying.
Result: +3000 FP
Option 4: You're pathetic
Hearing his girlfriend say that magnifies the hurt he's feeling. Rod isn't going to give up though, and dedicates himself to learning all he can and to do his best. However, your words make him want to cry.
Result: -2000 FP, +1 AP

Yellow Heart Event

Rod and Allen are talking, but Rod seems to be only talking about you. Allen isn't even paying attention. Rod catches onto Allen's spacing out and tells him he is being rude. Allen replies that he's tired of Rod telling the same stories over and over! You walk into the room, and Allen asks you talk to Rod about you being the main topic of conversation all the time. It's all he ever talks about! Rod says he'll cut back on the girlfriend chatter since you asked. Allen wonders what is it about Rod that makes you want to date him anyway.
Option 1: Because he's funny to look at
Rod is crushed; is that what you really think? Allen finds your response amusing.
Result: -2000 FP, +1 AP
Option 2: No real reason
Rod is happy that you became his girlfriend, but a little disappointed that there wasn't a reason why.
Result: -2000 FP, +1 AP
Option 3: He's cheerful and kind
He's embarrassed, but also happy that you think that way of him.
Result: +3000 FP
Option 4: His smile is cute
Ug, Allen is getting queasy just putting up with the two of you. Rod is incredibly overjoyed, and Allen decides to leave before things get too lovie-dovie for him. After he leaves, Rod tells you that the thing he likes the most about you is your smiling face as well. He wants to be able to see it forever.
