In the A Wonderful Life game, Van is the merchant that you'll sell items to that normally can't be shipped by Takakura. He normally sets up shop outside of the Inn on the 3rd and 8th of each season. If you're outside when he's ready to buy and sell, Van will shout to the town and you will hear it.
After you link up to AWL, Van will arrive at your farmhouse on Wednesday. He says every
week on Wednesdays, he'll set up shop on the 2nd floor of Doug's Inn. You can go to the
Inn and find Van at the very end of the hallway. He also calls himself "Lu" for some
reason, even though his name in AWL is Van. In the Japanese version his name is Ban.
The big "bonus" item you can buy from Van is the Record Player. Just like the one in AWL, you can use the player to change the background-music when you're on your farm. The Record Player will sit on the small table that is located next to your door inside of your farmhouse. Of course, you're going to need Records too! You can receive some Records from the Goddess' tv game show that airs inside of the Villa House (once you've had Gotz build it of course).
After you buy the Record Player, Van will also be selling Records. Every time you connect he'll have a new one for you to buy. When you want to change the background music of your farm, just take one of the Records and place it on your Record Player inside your house. The Records hold music from past Harvest Moon games, all the way back to the Super Famicom (SNES) version. You can store Records inside of your cabinet.
