Game-programming wise, I think the "let's make Mineral towners appear!" could be programmed to trigger when a GBA game with parameter X is inserted. In this case, the game inserted must have parameter X identical to FoMT.
Assuming that "mineral towners appeared!" means actually seeing Gray, Doc, Elli etc. wandering around town, and not just interacting with you on the phone/making deliveries etc.

Do you mean they appeared on the screen where you click new game or load? Or are they actually in your town? If it is just the new game or load screen then that isn't a glitch. I don't have either GBA games and they do still appear on that screen for me.

If this is legit, then lol. Years of being on the internet has me skeptical, though.

More specifically, the Medabots game is "Medabots AX: Metabee Version", not just "Metabots: Metabee version"

GBA connectivity glitch - Detects Medabots GBA games |

I was playing Harvest Moon DS and I realized that all the FoMT characters appeared. I was confused since I didn't have any Harvest Moon GBA games. I looked at the GBA slot and realized that "Medabots: Metabee Version" was still in the GBA slot and somehow had been mistaken for a Harvest Moon game. I rushed to the giant unbreakable boulder that was supposed to be a tombstone, and when I read it, the name was just a pair of quotation marks. Other than that, both HM and Medabots worked fine.
