Heh Heh~ All this talk about animals dying in the game, is making me a bit worried~ All though I probably should not be that worried, I am only in year 2... No animals have died yet in any of my games...

Gah! I always hate when one of my animals die... I always feel like I did something wrong, even though my animals were perfectly healthy.
The worst animal death scene is in hm awl:se. nic nak and flack show up in the morning and tell you that something is wrong with your animal and for you to come quick. your character rushes to the barn where the animal is located and you are forced to watch you beloved animal fall over and die.... like seriously thats horrible.

I have yet to play a Harvest Moon game where the animals didn't die early.
In Grand Bazaar My animals died as soon as they won the animal fesitval.
I lost so many animals in Sunshine Island, I used to think Mirabelle and Julia were having a barbeque on Meadow Island. (Mirabelle announces the death.)
My oldest chicken just died in Spring of Year 4 so I understand your frustration.

I've lost three chickens...they just died out of the blue...I don't even know it it old age or not....but now I am careful to check on their statuses so I don't lose anymore...they weren't even that old....the two I lost were barely about 3 years old. I don't think it was treats...it was possibly old age....

It's been a long trek with the treats. But I have 5 animals to level 4 production. I was going to sell them all and start again but couldn't make myself part with them or all the hard work on the treats. I'm doing more research on the treats because I've noticed if I give the wrong one to a few animals it won't set back production. I want to be able to make note of that on the google chart.

I gave up on treats for now and decided to sell and buy again all the animals when I move to Bluebell (in a season). So it will be a fresh start, everyone will have had 0 treats and it will be better to trace those numbers. I lost track of it now.

I always get really sad when one of my animals dies. Which is why I've recently taken to selling them just before they die. I don't do it for the money, but just to keep myself from the sadness of the death of one of my animals (I cry about the tiniest things =P)

I tried to prevent them from dying (but it was unexpected that my alpaca died even though it was only 3 years old) Usually when my chickens stayed with me for 3 years I sell them. And when my cows and sheep reaches 4 years with me I sell them, same goes for alpacas.

Oh my... I wonder how many people would've tried that to see if it worked if it wasn't for your disclaimer. But no. They don't hate you. They don't even mention it. I was kind of hoping to hear an "I'm sorry for your loss," from Cam but he still said the same "I'm so happy to see you! Blah, blah, blah..." that he says every morning. I was like, "WELL I'M NOT HAPPY AT ALL, CAM." Sheez... Show some sympathy harvest moon.

^Only if they don't die naturally. Like if you ignore them or beat them to death with your tools or something
Note: You cannot beat your animals to death. Do not try this

I haven't had any animals die yet; only in year 2.
Do people hate you in this game if your animals die like in other games?

Yep. That chicken that just died was on level four production. And I have another on level 3 that could also die any day now. Sigh. So many treats. So much money.

So when I replaced the white chicken I decided to do the treat stuff. When I was almost done, (spring year 5), I decided to go ahead and just do it for everyone else since they could live all the way to 5 or 6 years and they weren't that old, only around 3 or 4. And then I ended up having three animals die on me in the first month of giving it to them. :< I was like...geez, wasted all those treats. So just doing the treat stuff with their replacements. It'd be better if the productivity carried on to offspring. <-< I also wasn't able to get it to reload so they wouldn't die. It seemed like once they decided the animal was going to die, no amount of restarting was going to fix it. Oh well. I read somewhere that as they get older the percentage chance of them dying gets higher (so for alpacas, it'd be a low chance they'd die at age 2, but a much higher chance they'd die at age 5 or more). But I don't want to sell my 3 year old cow because he's only 3. Eh.
