I want to build a basement, but i want to know if it is safe to construct that thing with fooder or lumber, will it be destroyed if a storm hits? (this sounds really stupid because basements are kinda like under the earth but whatever

Basements can collapse if they're made of lumber or fodder (I think). The site says:

Grass
The cheapest material you can use. Grass buildings are thrifty deals, but they can collapse in rain. The buildings can even collapse on sunny days! You can collect Grass material by using your Sickle on the pasture grass you can grow. You also can buy the material from Rick for 20 G each, but there's no Grass Bin to store it in until you build the Fodder Silo.

I don't think it matters whether it's underground, a weak building will still collapse.

Your best bet is to build the basement out of gold lumber or stone. Like Muffy Princess Moon stated, it doesn't matter whether it's underground or not, the same rules still apply. The basements will still be susceptible to collapsing during/after a storm if made from fodder or lumber, so it's not very advised.

However, if you can only choose between lumber and grass, choose lumber since it's a sturdier material. Never choose grass, since that'll never survive a rainy day let alone a storm.

Defiantly do not build the first onenwith lumber or grass, even if the others are stone, they will disappear if th3 first one collapses

*Once you build a basement you're unable to demolish it, the only way for it to be demolished is for it to collapse.
The only reason I'd see fit to build your first basement out of something like fodder would be if you only wanted a temporary basement so you could have a gold lumber/stone basement in the future, because at the present time your lack of funds prevented you from buying the golden/stone one, but you wanted to plant/level up crops in the meantime.

So if that is what you are aiming for than you are going to have to do A LOT of saving!

So fodder just wouldn't be a good option if money isn't a problem.
If money is a problem lumber WILL do and should last, but stone is the safest bet and I say it's worth saving up for it, if you're trying to build a basement to last with no game-saving worries.
