Does anyone know what the gems are for? Do we need them for anything or can we just sell them?

Thanks Cherubae!
And Defender1 so far I've gotten mine from the mayor as prizes and ore from the cracks in the wall underneath the waterfall.

You'll also want to save 7 ore stones for upgrades, so don't smash every ore stone that you find! Thanks for the advise, Cherubae, that makes it a lot easier! ducky pants wrote: Can you mine in the tunnel once its opened back up? Yes, you can, but until you do the only way to mine is by finding ore stones in the crevice by the waterfall and smashing them with your hammer to get whatever is inside.

Nope, not those. You want the round black stones with the colored specks in them. Those are ore stones, and those are the ones you want to smash. I save them until the morning, then smash them and reload if I get scrap.

Nah, you can find ore stones in a bunch of places, they're just fairly rare in all of them.
Here's what I can think of off the top of my head:
1) search spot by the waterfall 2) jumping in deep water 3) extremely rare, but sometimes you'll just find them laying on the ground in the forage spots on the mountain. 4) after you've gotten a tunnel expansion or two you might find them laying on the ground in the tunnel, too. (tunnel does not have to be complete) 5) I think you might occasionally find one when you throw a snowball you find in winter too.

-BlueTrillium What? Ore stones in snowballs? How the hell do they fit inside? Anyway, thanks for this!

Also, I found two wonderfuls in the wall tree stump bluebell mid mountain one after another (red and orange I believe) during a typhoon, pretty lucky! :D
