Sheng Not accepting Gifts?

when i try to give Sheng a gift, he won't accept it! he says something along the lines of "What are you doing with that?". does anyone know why he's doing that? i really want the axe, but i can't get it if he won't accept my gifts.

You don't need to befriend him to get the axe request. You just have to wait until the beginning of summer and it'll be on the board.

But, with the presents, is it rotten? People won't accept rotten presents. Also, if you haven't talked to him in a while, he might not accept it, though I'm not sure if that was taken out.

no, it's an agate. i found one while smashing an Ore Stone, so i tried to give it to Sheng, and he wouldn't take it!

Just a correction: you do need to befriend Sheng a bit to get the axe. Not a lot (just 2000fp I believe), but still some.

This problem has never happened to me, personally, but I would frankly sell the agate and just stick to giving him bamboo. It's more cost-effective and you'll still have enough fp. Just make sure to talk to him everyday, even if you don't have a gift for him... which has already been mentioned as a possible cause to his refusals (not talking to him, I mean). In which case, just talk to him and wait until the next day to try to give him a gift again.

Also, if you're that early in the game, I very strongly suggest you keep all your ore stones rather than smashing them. Trust me, you'll need them later.

oh, OK! i have a couple bamboo in my storage anyway. was planning to use them after i gave Sheng that one agate. i knew i needed ore stones already. that's why i have a few saved up. i've been lucky in finding them.

If you neglect talking to villagers for awhile, they won't accept you gifts. Try talking to them for a few days to get them in the accepting mood.

i didn't know that! i ignored Sheng for several days, but now i'll talk to him. maybe THEN he'll accept my gift.

In TOTT, you do not need to talk to people to give them gifts. That's SI (and possibly IoH). Idk why he wasn't taking your gift, but talking does increase friendship, so it's always good. They only take one gift a day, nothing rotten.

You need to talk to the person first on the day, only after that first dialoge you'll be able to give him a gift even if you didn't ignore him. :bunny:
