I'm living in Bluebell this season because of the cow festival + not an expantion request for my Konohana's farm. So I generally rush through the mountain around noon and return around 6/8pm foraging the items. But since the PBF is in the lower level of the screen, I'll try to go this way when I travel to Konohana too.

Thanks, songstorm :lala:

You're welcome Melian - and guess what? I just caught a Helena Morpho without catching a PBF first! It was just before 3pm, on a sunny, non-festival day. Maybe the random percentages theory is more accurate after all...and now I wish I had gone back in after catching Helena to see if a PBF was floating about.

I thought exactly that :!: Next time I get a HM I'll return to see if I can fing a PBF. Unless I catch the latter first :)

Sorry for double posting, but I needed the topic to go to the first pages and it doesn't work with a simple edit...

Well, I caught the PBF using the percentage theory, but instead of catching a helena morpho first, I caught a pale something... I reentered the screen and there the PFB was :!: And it worked on some bugs from summer too. Now I'm missing just 8 (in total). I don't know if the percentage is right, but it sure works to get the bugs of an area, reenter it and find another ones.

Thanks for testing that Melian & congrats on getting the PBF!

I'm more and more convinced that the percentages theory is the right one. My biggest remaining question is whether you need to catch all of the bugs on a screen or just the ones of the same color. For the butterflies, I can say pretty confidently that the latter is the case, but when I was trying to find an Emperor firefly, I ended up catching all of the bugs on the screen before I finally found it. Whether I would've found it otherwise, I don't know.

Also - the summer bugs are done. There are 5 critters remaining, which I should hopefully be able to find come fall. I'll try to keep experimenting with my percentages theory too.

The critter guide is complete! (more or less) I may update with additional locations as the mood strikes me, but hopefully this will at least provide a starting point for anyone having trouble locating a particular critter. If you're looking for one of the rarer bugs, the best strategy seems to be to catch at least the common bug of the same color on that screen, then exit and come back in before the 4-hour regeneration occurs.

What does it mean when it says Spring 2 or spring 6 in some of them? Is that the first date that they appear?

That's the date (and the time) that I caught the bug. However, other than possibly a few rare bugs not showing up until year 2, I'm fairly confident that the date doesn't actually matter as long as you're in the right season. The time of day has an impact on some bugs, which appear in different locations from morning to night, and of course there's the whole 6pm switchover for summer bugs.

Thank you for posting all of this information. I really appreciate it.

I have a question, when you mentioned about where a fishing guide is concerned, the Some locations have been switched.

I know there the waterfall is but, I am a at a loss as to what all of the different sections of the mountains are called.
In fact, I still get lost there. I have not had the first tunnel expansion yet, but will that change what each section is referred to as.

Starting from Konohana, could you list all the different sections of the mountains in order. This may also make it easier to locate some of the characters, who may be somewhere there, but I cannot locate them at all.

Thank you again.

For the mountain locations, Kono-Low would be the section closest to the village, while Kono-High would be the section closest to the summit/top of the mountain. So - starting from the village screen where Sheng and Kana live, the next one is Kono-Low, Kono-Mid, Kono-High, Summit (this is the top/where the cooking festivals happen), then Blue-High, Blue-Mid, Blue-Low, and then the village screen with the church and the shipping box for Bluebell. The waterfall is in Kono-Mid.

The tunnel runs under the mountain and therefore has no impact on how the mountain itself is laid out.

As for the fishing guide, there are pictures of each fishing dock on Cher's guide (http://fogu.com/hm10/activities/fishing.php). The first one is Blue-High, the second is Kono-High (you have to hop across the rock in the river to get to this dock), and the last one with 2 options is Kono-Mid. Side note: I believe that Cher has corrected her locations with her last update, so now if it says a particular fish is available at the dock closest to the waterfall, that is where it will be found.

Hope that helps!

If it's sill confusing, maybe this willl help:

Summit
Blue-high ------ Kono-high
Blue-mid ---------Kono-mid
Blue-low ------------Kono-low
Bluebell ---------------Konohana

I just started to understand this low, high, Blue, Kono confusion when I made that drwaing in my head. It's pretty simple, actually.

This helps tremendously. I really appreciate your help.

What I meant about the tunnel expansion was the part that the bears play 3 times, and does that a different screen section, or part of the mountain when they do someting to a boulder?

I guess it does not effect that at all. Thank you again.

This will really help finding out where all of the bugs and fish are.

Thank you again.

You should tell the mods or Cher to sticky this.
And thank you for making it!

It sure deserves to be stickied :!:

I'd just saved the day I caught the last critter I was missing. And this topic helped me a lot. That "catch a critter and re-enter the screen" strategy is fantastic.

Thanks a lot, guys :lala:
