Start making friends with her and the twins. The higher the flower point level, the better dishes they'll enter.

Harvest Moonie and Pokemon Master extraordinaire Growing old is mandatory. Growing UP is optional!!
Harvest Moon ANB: name: Beth----farm name:Moon 3DS FC:2363-5887-9166 you can add me no probs. Usually doing wi-fi Wednesdays and Thursdays from about 11 am to 2 pm central time. I always bring my suffolk sheep and brown alpaca, and I give silkie eggs. Don't care what I get in return-just please no roads!
The whole thing is random. While I live on Konohana, she submits wonderful dishes while Ying submits failed dishes. I keep going "Really Ying? Yun is your grandma. I'm sure she taught you how to cook." You could always save the night before to guarantee your win.
I agree with Googa, I'd rather the cooking festivals be an individual thing, but that's just me. I don't like having to worry about somebody entering a bad dish when I worked hard on my own and it's pretty good.
I find Cheryl rather annoying, but I still think she's kind of cute. Besides, she's a kid. Probably shouldn't be cooking in the first place
a) I want to die with exactly 50 years old b) Not suicide it's emo stuff c) Not murder because I'm too awesome to be killed by someone d) Maybe in a disaster, but I'm more awesome than mother nature
It's not really a huge deal to me if we win or lose at the point I'm at in the game but I have Cheryl at full bloom and she usually enters level dishes. I don't find her annoying. She's just a kid, she likes dessert and butterflies, and she reminds me of my sister look-wise, which is a good thing since I don't see her that often.
I do remember being really frustrated when I first started the game. I entered for Bluebell and we had a (I counted) 17 losing streak. The only time we won was when both Ying and Hiro made failed dishes. And then we went back to losing. I'd rather just compete on my own....

When I entered for Bluebell, I didn't lose as much. At least not for the 'main dish' and 'dessert'. I got my chickens and cows to maximum friendship levels, bought a silkie chicken, and now I can make 5-starred pudding and omelet. Rutger tells you the pudding recipe, and if you add a black egg to it, it'll be the best combination. And you can find the omelet recipe in Howard's cafe in the bookshelf. Add a black egg to that, too.
Though I have problems with salad and soup. I usually enter a herb salad, but I have no idea what soup to make.
And Cheryl really is a bit annoying, especially when she adds the 'hee hee".
When fixing the tunnel, I won about twice as much as I lost, and now that I have the Chicken Cart and a wide range of crops and products, I lose maybe once a month. I never reset. Typically, the teams are about the same for me. Cheryl STILL has never or maybe once entered a dish. The best I get from her is "..." not even and I have her at full bloom.
