I have a couple of ideas that would make HM more fun. Like giving the MC more actions and more of a story than your run of the Mill grandson/granddaughty of their grandparents taking over farm or someone that stumbles on a dying village. I really like how they add voices in the RF games and I wish they would do more.
Oh in response to your characters with interests besides their profession. I know that there's a miner in SI named Isaac who is really...uhm effeminate (I think?) and likes flowers and girly stuff If I recall.

ToTT, imo, was one of the most bland HMs, along with GrB. Now again, this is just my opinion. However, I wouldn't worry about getting too old for it. I know pleanty of people on here who are stereo-typically 'too old' for video games in general, but if you enjoy it, why should your age matter? I believe it may have just been the game itself, not you. I coudln't even get halfway through year 2 on ToTT, it was just boring. I really enjoyed it at first, don't get me wrong, but it was too repetitive. I suggest maybe playing an older HM instead, one that's more challenging since you've been playing them for so long and you're looking for a harder one.

Selphy wrote: I remember in older games I had to choose between socializing with everyone or watering a huge field or whatever. That's how this game is. I'm very very busy every day, and if I make my character go to bed early it's not because I ran out of things to do, but probably because she is totally out of energy, I already got free food from boyfriend-unit, the restaurant/clinic is closed, and I'm just too lazy to go around saying hi to everyone in town. (I'm so bad at the socializing part.. eek) Going to bed "early" in this game is like 6PM or so.
Quote: The worst part was the blandness and lifelessness of all the characters. The dialogue was bleh and they said the same thing day after day after day. I think it might have been the same way in the older games but I may have not paid attention. Would it be that much trouble for them to make a pool of text and have it random up everyday? I really love the characters in this game, ToTT's can't even hold up a candle to them. Not just the bachelor/ettes, many of the villagers are quite cool as well. They'll still repeat the same thing to an extent, obviously they aren't like real people, but this game has more dialogue than any other HM game. Not kidding
Quote: My perfect HM would have a pool of 30 lines to pull from for each season. Different text as you approach festivals. And finally, characters who have interests outside their profession. Why would an animal farmer always want animal products? It's so lazy! Couldn't they work a story like the female farmer bachelorette has a hidden girly-side and likes perfumes and flowers? Or the male miner likes fishing-related stuff? Well, I'll tell you now that this game doesn't have 30 lines to pull from for each season. For the amount of characters there are, that could be excessive... most of the seasonal dialogue is in the form of greetings, it's also based on weather. So like... if it's spring and raining, they'll make a rain-related comment that's different from commenting on summer rain (there are also random time-based greetings as usual). Each area has a few location-based lines. There are a few lines that change depending on the size of the town, or what businesses recently opened up (kinda like the heart lines). And then there are situational lines, like if you set down sculptures or benches etc that they like, they'll comment on it (helpful when figuring out what to do for the garden show). And there is SO much festival text, unlike ToTT you can talk to everyone during every festival and they all have several things to say. I could go on but there really is a ton of dialogue.
The dating system adds a whole new layer to the bachelor/ettes, it's quite nice because most of their dialogue changes completely once you date them. It's not dating like in ToTT, I mean like going steady w/someone where the rest of the town acknowledges that relationship. And their text changes again after you marry them. Makes it seem like there's character development.
Quote: Enough of my rants though. So in the end, I'm about ready to give up on playing HMs. I just wanted to ask the people who have played this one, is it any better? Is it ANYTHING like the way I want it? I dunno if it's everything you're looking for, but this is the best HM game I've played, and I've played quite a few of them

DracoShadow wrote: From what I have seen of this new game, it looks like the best one in a long time. And, there has been very little negative feedback that I have heard. So, I wouldn't lose hope just yet. Wait until this game comes out in english, and then decide whether or not to stop playing. Because, with this game being such a good installment, if you still don't like it, then perhaps you have outgrown Harvest Moon... But, I personally think the game looks and sounds awesome. =D Hehe i agree, i have been DREAMING of playing this game, and those dreams? they are wonderful...::Purrs softly and chugs warm milk::

hint: it isn't that you're outgrowing the games
it's just that they've gotten progressively worse over the years even with everything they were experimenting with to make things interesting
not even including those glitches that totally ruin your saves
however this game appears to have been the savior everybody wanted
