So, is there any reason to upgrade tools one at a time in this version? I know there is a reason in the DS ones, to get the accessories of the different levels, but so far as I can tell in this one, you might as well wait until you have the resources and experience to upgrade to mystril in one go, and just pay up once (if you're able to that is). This means you would be saving money in the long term effectively, because otherwise you pay Saibara's fee several times. Or is my reasoning here off?

For some reason, I'm thinking that if you upgrade a tool, and you have the level below it, then you only have to pay like 1000G, but I could be wrong.

But tbh, if I waited until my watering can was ready to be upgraded to mythrile, I would drive myself insane because I use it so much. But if it was something like... the fishing rod or something else you don't use much, then I would just say to wait.

there's really two reasons to upgrade only a level or two at a time.
1. you use that tool a -lot- and can't stand to wait 5 days for it to get fully upgraded (say, your watering can) and would rather only wait a few days at a time
2. it's a tool you don't use often/can't use certain fully until upgraded, like the axe or hammer, and don't want to grind out 400% to upgrade it all the way in one go. it can be easier to use it in the limited mode until it is 100-200% and only upgrade to copper or silver, then use it until you get to 400%, since you'd be able to chop/smash alrger things sooner.

i usually upgrade my hoe and watering can in one go, my hammer and axe in two stages (halfway and then full), and my fishing rod whenever i get around to it (but rarely wait until i can do it in one go since i want to catch larger fish!!).

it is cheaper to wait until it is at 400% and then upgrade it all the way, but it is a trade-off with time, since it will stay in the shop longer and take longer before you can upgrade it, so it's up to you on what you value more.

Thanks everyone! LadyNina, thanks especially thanks for the detail, I realise it's a trade off of time but usually it's my way to grind their levels a little bit and just wait so I can save gold. This topic was mostly to make sure that doing it that way wouldn't have any additional pitfalls relating to other aspects of the game (like items or events or things that need unlocking).

Actually, in that game, I didn't even use my mystrile watering can past the gold level. Because that's one of those games where you can't walk over the crops, I don't plant more than one 3x3 plot right next to each other, and the mystrile level waters an awkward 5x3 so... I just use gold, which does 3x3.

well, if you plant vast tracts of crops, the higher your watering can, the better. not everyone plants in just 3x3 squares!

Yeah, but if you plant vast crops, you can't really get to the middles ones unless you have the sprites help you. Which I have never managed to do, myself ._.

it depends on how vast and how good the spirtes are.

really, if you plant your entire farm, you need a mythic watering can -and- the sprites. but if you don't plant your entire farm solid, you can get away without the mythic can and with the sprites (who do the inside crops that you can't reach, if you plant that way), and the highest level can you can get is still useful.

there's all sorts of ways to plant a farm~

Haha, well at this time, I've never used "vast" style planting of crops, I'm a bit obsessed with the neat little patches of crops :P But I would still be aiming to get a mythic can despite that, I just don't hold the power up all the way if I don't want to XP Although it was good in DS because three of the sprites are unlocked by watering random squares so that definitely gets the job done :D

I may end up using vast crop planting in this version much later (I've only just started a new file for HG wooing aha) but either way, I figure that means I'm in this for at least 5 years, or knowing me 6 because I'm a little on the slow side with the mine stuff, but yeah, I can afford to wait ^^

Well, I tend to plant my crops in a 15x3 fashion in SI, and maybe I'll do something like this in Cute. If you can use a 5x3 watering can, I'll only need to water three times. And doing so I'll be watering the middle crops, so I think it's usefull to fully charge the watering can, anyway. Something like this can be done in FoMT too :P
