I was browsing Gamefaq and came upon THIS

It's a water and light requirement guide for all the crops. Now I won't kill my plants so often! I'll copy past it here too.

All credit for this goes to Rabid Possum at Gamefaqs.

Crop FAQ – Water and Sun

There seems to be a lot of questions about the crop system in this, so I have put this together to see if it will help.

Growth Stages
Crops grow in stages. The first day is always the seed stage. This is followed by 1-4 growth stages in which the plant increasingly matures. To get to the next growth stage, 3 things need to have happened:

1) The minimum number of days in the growth stage need to have passed.
2) The crop needs to have received the minimum level of sunlight.
3) The crop needs to have received the minimum level of water.

Sunlight
The only way for the crops to get sunlight is during certain types of weather.

Sunny days (blazing sun icon): 3
Fair (sun with straight lines for rays): 1
All other weather: 0

The Greenhouse gives +1 light every day

Water
Crops can receive water from the weather as well as from you physically watering them.

Typhoons and blizzards: 3
Rain and snow: 2
Drizzle: 1
All other weather: 0

Watering with your watering can adds 1 water. You can water as many times as you want in one day and it will increase the water level by 1 each time you do it.

Highest Quality Crops
You want to aim for the minimum amount of water and sunlight for the crop to get the highest quality. Each type of crop has different requirements. If you exceed the maximum, the crops will wilt and die.

Don’t Water if you Don’t Need To
If you reached the minimum water amount in the growth stage, stop watering! Also, take into account next day’s weather before you water your crops, because depending on what the weather is the next day, when your growth stage ends, and your water levels, you may not even need to water that day.

Quality, Size and Freshness
Each item in IoH has 3 different characteristics to determine the rank (D, C, B, A, S). These are quality, size, and freshness.

To get S rank crops, you want a high quality bar, size, and freshness bar.

Quality: As mentioned above, you want the minimum sun and water in each growth stage. The closer to the minimum, the higher the quality bar.

Size: To max the size bar, do not harvest the crop right away. Leave it. The longer you leave it, the bigger it gets. Just make sure it doesn't exceed days, water, and sun that will cause it to wilt. I will put a list below.

Freshness: Starts at full bar. Will start to decrease after picking. Put in refrigerator to slow this down. Put in mythic stone refrigerator to stop completely.

If you wait to harvest your crops, do not exceed these amounts once the crop is ready to harvest. You would not want to water them at all in this stage. It is unnecessary since their is no minimum amount to move on to the next growth stage.

That looks basically like what is written in the guide book. But I like the format here better. It's a bit easier to follow. Thanks for posting.

I have only lost one crop of turnips so far- it was the end of the season and I think they ran out of time.

Thanks for the list!

Hey guys, this is Rabid Possum from GameFAQs. I put together the above info and have some more that you might find useful.

Put in gold refrigerator to stop completely.

If you wait to harvest your crops, do not exceed these amounts once the crop is ready to harvest. You would not want to water them at all in this stage. It is unnecessary since their is no minimum amount to move on to the next growth stage.

Bell Pepper: 10 days / 20+ light / 10+ water
Buckwheat: 10 days / 40+ light / 20+ water
Cabbage: 10 days / 10+ light / 10+ water
Carrot: 10 days / 15+ light / 4+ water
Corn: 10 days / 20+ light / 20+ water
Cucumber: 10 days / 20+ light / 8+ water
Eggplant: 10 days / 20+ light / 10+ water
Grass: 60 days / 90+ light / 60+ water
Onion: 10 days / 15+ light / 10+ water
Pineapple: 8 days / 20+ light / 12+ water
Potatoes: 10 days / 20+ light / 10+ water
Pumpkin: 10 days / 20+light / 6+ water
Rice: 10 days / 20+ light / 10+ water
Soybeans: 10 days / 40+ light / 20+ water
Spinach: 5 days / 10+ light / 4+ water
Strawberries: 10 days / 10+ light / 10+ water
Tomato: 10 days / 20+ light / 8+ water
Turnips: 10 days / 20+ light / 10+ water
Wheat: 10 days / 40+ light / 10+ water

Sticky! :D

I just wonder if this could be applied to SSaF? *looks at maybe future imported SSaF, then smirks*

Could someone clarify me on that? Otherwise, I certainly believe this should be stickied, because there are a lot of people on Ushi that question about why their crops die. I can't really answer them because I don't have the game. :(
