I'm french,so I play to Harvest Moon in French.I recently bought the game and I saw the names ,someof them are really strange !
Angelo > Guy
Dirk=Dirk
Ivan > Ulysse (I hate that)
Llyod > Roy
Amir > Shmidt
Antoinette > Ange (the french word for angel)
Daisy > Anémone (the same in japanese)
Freya=Fréya
Emiko > Kath (^^)
Sherry > Sophia

Many harvest moon have french names,but not as different as this ones.

It's the same in Germany: They changed almost all names in Grand Bazaar ('though in SI all names were the same as in English)

Angelo -> Atli
Dirk -> Robin
Ivan -> Juris
Lloyd -> Lawrence
Amir -> Safran
Antoinette -> Angel
Daisy -> Anne-Moni
Freya -> Flair
Emiko -> Kagetsu
Sherry -> Antje

For this reason I am happy they do not make Finnish versions of these games. The horror of dealing with bachelors named Pentti and Yrjänä, and bachelorettes named Pirjo and Martta.

I guess the original french names sound exotic enough for English gamers, but the German and French localization team just wanted to make the names a bit more familiar.

wow, that's really strange 0_0
For some reason I always thought that they kept the names the same in french etc.
It's a good job that the canadian version doesnt have different names from the american one. Or I'd be really confused when I was talking to people on here :P

As far as I know, there is no Canadian version. The one they sell in Canada is the North America one.

I had to chuckle at the Mucho Lucho Fucho trio :lol: Are they some kind of stereotype names in Italian? Because the English counterparts are certainly Mexican/Spanish stereotype names.

well, my copy is canadian. That's why it takes a few weeks more to come out in canada than america.
My game's instruction manual has half in french, and although the actual game has USA on it, I know my SI game has CAN at the end.
But anyway, it doesnt matter. I was just pointing out that it would be strange, that's all :)

@googaboga: I know :) I like the different names too. Especially the ucho brothers ones XD

Yes,because Marie-Antoinette was a french queen.But I think the new name is good for her.
I really don't like Ulysse and Kath,it's not a japenese name and looks to Kathy.
