Failed dishes aren't ALL bad. They can still be traded to Nick and Haila for some pretty good recipes.

You can exchange a weed for an ingredient in a single item recipe or use a black herb alone in herb salad or soup and make a cheap failed dish to use in recipe instead of an ingredient which could be shipped for more money as a whole ingredient or given as a gift some villager loves. Alas, no one likes failed dishes or junk ore as a gift.
