There are 8 types of basic crops you can grow in your fields. Each bag of seeds you can buy from Besta's farm. She and her brother sell the seeds year round, so you can stock up and be ready for planting when the right season comes along. Cecilia will sell the seeds too if you haven't married her.

The Generation 1 crops can be grown on any of the 3 fields. After a crop has produced it's harvest, the plant will remain but it won't reflower. You can let it rot away naturally after a few days or you can chop it down with your sickle. There are no benefits to the soil by letting the crop die on it's own, so you might as well free up the limited field space by cutting it down.
