Your Child

After you get married, your family will grow by one more. You don't have any say in whether you want to remain childfree. After you have been married for about 30 days, you'll experience an announcement. This will be handled differently depending on who you married.

• If your partner is the same sex, the Harvest Goddess will visit that night after you go to sleep and ask a hypothetical question: If you were to have a child, would you want a boy or a girl? You can choose one or the other, or select "Either would be great" if you have no preference. After answering her question, she'll giggle and disappear. In the morning, your spouse will say they also had the same dream with the Harvest Goddess.
• If your partner is the opposite sex, then there will be a pregnancy announcement. Morning sickness will warrant a call to someone with experience with such things, typically Tessa or Olivia, who will diagnose the pregnancy. You'll choose whether you want a boy, girl, or "either one." While you will receive a crib during this event, you'll have to wait until the baby is born before the furniture appears in the bedroom.

After 30 days have passed since the event, the baby will arrive in the house.

• For same-sex couples, the Harvest Goddess will again appear in a dream to announce the arrival of a special gift. Then *poof*, the baby and crib magically appear inside the bedroom.
• For opposite-sex couples, there will be an event with dialog that implies a birth has taken place. The baby will then appear in the crib in the bedroom.

The child will have the hair color of your farmer as defined by the hair color selected at the baby announcement event, the skin color of your spouse, and an eye color that is a blend of the parents' shades that best matches the 14 available eye colors.

Essentially, if you want your child to have a specific hair color, change your character's hair to the desired color before the child announcement occurs. This is done by going to the Dresser in the house and navigating through the Main Character Settings. You can then return your hair to your favorite color after the announcement event.

You'll then receive a Feeding Bottle and choose a name.

During this baby stage, you'll need to feed them Baby Formula every day. You can make this by combining 1 Milk (any variety) in the kitchen. This recipe appears in the kitchen after receiving the Feeding Bottle and is at the bottom of the list of craftable meals. When you see the baby bottle icon above the crib, select the Baby Formula from your inventory and give it to the child to initiate the feeding activity.

The baby will also become visibly upset and need soothing. When you see them crying, interact with them to improve their mood. If you ignore your child and go to bed, the crying will interrupt your sleep, resulting in only partial stamina recovery in the morning.

After another 30 days have passed, you'll find in the morning that they are now crawling. The baby will be wearing a jumper instead of being bundled in a blanket and will now crawl around on the ground instead of staying in the crib all day long. You'll still need to feed them Baby Formula every day.

Your child will still have crying fits, but now they will occur while the child is sitting on the floor in the bedroom area. Interacting with them will soothe them. Though they're out of the crib, they won't accept gifts.

Your child will begin to walk after another 30 days. Now they can toddle around the house. More feeding and more soothing will be necessary.

Finally, the child will reach their last growth stage after another 30 days. In the morning, you'll see the child talking in full sentences. At this point, you're no longer responsible for feeding or soothing them. You can begin to give them gifts. They can leave the house to explore the farm space and will appear at festivals. The child will also join you for morning stretches and breakfast. The crib will transform into a third, adult-sized bed in the corner of the bedroom.

You cannot change the child's outfit or hair color.

A picnic event will happen the next day after the child becomes fully grown. The family will venture into the mountains to spend time together. You'll receive the Letter From Your Child special item, which will be stored in the special items section of your rucksack. The letter doesn't seem to have any purpose and isn't readable.
