HM:OW Patch in EU/AUS, PoOT May Expansion Pass, and 1.0.5 Released in Japan | Posted at 11:10 AM 28 May 2021

Happy Farm'n Friday! The lettuce planted in the new front-yard slug-proof garden boxes this year has not been eaten yet! We might be harvesting lettuce this year! Last year the slugs ate all the lettuce in the regular wood garden box in the back yard; it was a leafy green catastrophe. Moving to these special garden boxes has prevented the army of native Oregon slugs from munching on my tender greens. There are also spinach, a red pepper, and tomatillo plants growing without a nibble detectable on their leaves.

An unknown insect is munching the leaves of the sunflowers, though. I haven't spotted the culprit yet, and the sunflowers seem to be growing well, so I guess sharing the non-edible plants will be okay for now. Maybe the sunflowers are enticing the bugs, so they don't wander over to the lettuce and spinach.

HM:OW 1.2 now in EU/AUS

Rising Star Games has released the 1.2 update for Harvest Moon: One World on Nintendo Switch this week. This update slowed the in-game time and adjusted animal lifespans.

SoS:PoOT May Expansion Pass

A new expansion pass was released in North America and Europe/Australia this week. The Windswept Falls and the School Uniforms unlock a new area and new costumes in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.

Windswept Falls is an area accessible at the boat dock on your farm. This Eastern-style area has a stream and waterfall you can catch fish, but there are no wild items or crops to harvest. You can find the extra characters Dunhill, Hina, Felicia, and Neil living in the area. Hina lives with Dunhill, and there's nothing right off the bat that explains where her parents may have gone. Neil lives with his chickens, while Felicia lives alone and writes about food. The two marriage candidates do have heart events if you plan to woo them.

The School Uniforms is an option that can be enabled from the game's title screen. Select Downloadable Content, Apply Downloadable Content, and finally, Marriage Candidate Outfits. This enables wearable brown blazers, slacks, and skirts for the Olive Town marriage candidates. Neil and Felicia do not have school uniforms of their own. You can also get Olive Town school uniforms by going to Salon Ailes D'ange and ordering the free outfits from Karina.

The next pass release on June 24 will be Terracotta Oasis, another new area in the game. This expansion will bring in characters from the first Story of Seasons game: Doctor Marian, Giorgio, Iris, and Raeger.

SoS:PoOT Patch 1.0.5 in Japan

The highly-anticipated game update for Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town was released on Monday, May 24, in Japan. The 1.0.5 patch was toted by Marvelous as a big improvement to the Nintendo Switch game. The update is being localized for outside-Japan regions. It is NOT available in English at the moment, despite what is being published on some online video game news websites.

Maker Machines - A big change is with how the maker machines process their goods. When an item can be processed, the name of the final item will be displayed on the maker machine input menu, and the total number of items the maker machine is currently processing. Each machine can hold enough raw material to process up to 10 of the same items. Basically, you cannot toss Gold Ore and Silver Ore into the same Ingot Maker to process at the same time, but you can add 50 Silver Ore to the Ingot Maker and then let it chew away at making 10 Silver Ingots. So you'll still need to have separate makers for processing different types of goods at the same time. The makers will still process each item one at a time, and you can pick up finished goods while the machine is still chugging away (e.g., you can collect 1 Silver Ingot every 4 hours). With the ability to add enough raw materials to process up to 10 goods, you won't have to run back to your maker army as often to refuel and pick up the processed goods.

Smoothing - The 1.0.5 update helped to reduce some of the pauses and stuttering that take place when walking around in the game. The stuttering was reduced slightly in the 1.0.4 update (less of it was indoors in my game) and improved more in this latest patch.

Exiting Buildings w/o Prompts - Players no longer need to press the A Button to confirm their intention to move and exit a building. You still have to press the A Button to confirm you want to enter a building.

Affection Marker Display - Instead of on-screen portraits, this update adds a visible affection heart next to the marriage candidates' names on the conversation dialog box. The more hearts you have with a marriage candidate, the larger the filled-in heart on the conversation dialog box. After marriage, the icon for your spouse will be prism colored, while the visible heart icons will disappear for the other marriage candidates' dialog boxes.

Movement - To make it easier to control the tool target box, holding down the Right Shoulder or Left Shoulder buttons while moving will restrict movement to up, down, left, or right. This is helpful when using tools in a straight line without the target box moving to a different, unintentional square. Unfortunately, the target box still appears on the ground in areas where you can't use the tools anyway, such as indoors or running around town. Maybe it's just me, but I would rather not see the tool target box on the ground in areas when I can't use the tool.

Ordered food - Previously, ordering anything at the Capeside Bistro or the café at the Gull's Rest Hotel would always appear as the same visual meal: a drink, vegetable salad, grilled fish, roll, and tea. The 1.0.5 update adds different types of dishes when you order meals from the restaurants. The villager's meals did not change; you'll still find everyone eating the same full-course grilled fish meal as before the update. Your spouse will also eat the same grilled fish meal when eating breakfast and dinner at the farmhouse dining table.

Cooking Time Changes - When making anything using the farmhouse kitchen, 30 minutes would elapse no matter what you cooked. Post-update, the in-game time varies. Dishes like Potato Salad, Strawberry Daifuku, and Curry Rice now take 15 minutes. There may be longer times for higher-level dishes that I haven't unlocked yet in my JP copy of the game.

Conversation Text Improvements - The 1.0.5 update was noted to have dialog revisions and additions with some of the villagers. They still have the pre-festival and post-festival dialog, but there seems to be a little bit more interest in the everyday talk. Jack mentions that Blair also likes movies, but she's more interested in the romance genre, and Reina says she likes living at the museum because she can sleep surrounded by her favorite things. Though it may be that those were there the whole time and I simply never noticed

Silo Storage - This one seems to be in my JP game but not in my EN one, so I'm guessing it's from the 1.0.5 update? Both the Silo and the Silage now hold a maximum of 99 fodder each. Pre-update the animal food storage held a maximum of 40 fodder.

Same Day Confession/Proposal - There was a change made when giving gifts, confessing, and proposing on the same day. I wasn't aware this was a problem, but it's an improvement, whatever it is!

Producer Takemura also noted that a 1.0.6 update is planned for June. This patch will improve the cut-scene Egg Festival, and the ability to rename animals will be added to the game. More updates are planned for after 1.0.6, which he'll reveal later.

Until next time!
