New PoOT CM, BokuMobile's Booth, Another NY Message, and Page 2 of the HMBG2 Comic | Posted at 06:52 PM 07 January 2022

Happy Farm'n Friday! We've had another deluge of rain over the past few days. The in-ground hooks from which the Christmas beach balls hang are falling over because the ground is well-saturated. It's muddier than usual! We're in the last few days of the Christmas Light Extravaganza anyway. Saturday is the last night of illumination until the whole thing is packed away until next Halloween. It always takes less time to tear down than it does to install. Some of the neighbors have already taken down their displays, but others are waiting for drier weather as well.

On the bright side, the spring bulbs have started sprouting! Now that the annoying snow is gone, the flowers are stretching their cute leaves out of the ground. It's fun to see the ground covered in little green spikes. It's the right time for slugs to munch on those tender shoots, so a proactive application of slug bait should help protect the sprouts.

Farm'n Wins a Steam Award

The user-voted winners of the Steam Awards were announced, and Farming Simulator 22 won the Sit Back and Relax category! Huzzah! Someday I hope to give FS a try.

New SoS:PoOT Commercial

Marvelous of Japan is strumming up more interest in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town by releasing a new commercial about the DLC and the improvements they've made to the game.

They're also promoting the 30% discount for the Nintendo Switch edition on both the base game and the expansion pass. This eShop sale ends on the 12th.

It's a cute commercial, though it would have been nice if all those features were in the game from the beginning! There are a lot of used copies of SoS:PoOT for sale online in Japan on Yahoo Auctions and Mercari, with $17 USD as the average sale price; any copies priced at $20 or more typically go unsold. On the other hand, used copies of SoS:FoMT for Switch are selling for $35.

Firefly ACG

NEXT Studios was finally able to display their interactive Story of Seasons Mobile booth at the Firefly ACG Expo in Guangzhou, China, last weekend.

Show visitors were tasked with visiting sections of the booth to complete tasks, then take their check sheet to an exchange booth to receive promo swag. The tasks include playing rock/paper/scissors with the Harvest Goddess, catching aquatic toys at the fishing pond, a hammer strength task, visiting a cow barn, and even digging through a ball pit for toy eggs. They even gave out free ice cream! Well, that looked like fun!

There was a space for a game demo, but the game included at the expo was the mobile game Metal Revolution, another game developed by NEXT Studios. Perhaps the spot will be for BokuMobile at another public showcase.

NEXT Studios posted a video of the in-action booth on their Weibo account. Everyone looked to be having a good time!

Happy New Year from Marv #2!

Every January, game developers throughout Japan send cute New Years' art cards and a special message to Weekly Famitsu to be published in the magazine. Sometimes the developers and publishers give hints about what they're planning for the year. Marvelous JP sent in a cow-themed nengajo along with a special message for their fans:

Rough translation...

Happy New Year! 2021 was the 25th anniversary of Bokujou Mongatari, we welcomed the 15th anniversary of Rune Factory, and became a year full of gratitude. 2022 will become a year full of challenges with our brand-new titles. Everyone, thank you very much, and let's also have an exciting and marvelous year!

Kickstarter Update

The beta release of The Wandering Village is now open to all Kickstarter backers, regardless of the funding tier they joined. The beta isn't available for the general public. Kickstarter backers should check their email for the link to sign up for the beta from Stray Fawn Studio.

The beta release of Roots of Pacha will open up on April 8 for its crowdfunding campaign backers. Soda Den expects that the Quarter 2 2022 release date wouldn't be achievable and has scheduled an anticipated release date of late 2022. This allows the development team (which was initially only two brothers) to give some more polish to the game and release it in a form that matches the vision of their Kickstarter.

HMBG2 Comic

Last week in the Igusa Matsuyama comic included in a Japan guidebook for Harvest Moon 2, we found poor Sarah was overwhelmed with fixing the old farm. Now we can see who was making such a ruckus behind her!

Huzzah! Help has arrived! We know him as "Pete," but he is named "Peat" in this rendition, so I'll go along with it. The rest of the comic in the guidebook is a mix of 4-box style and full-size pages. It'll be fun!

Until next time!

(I hope it doesn't rain this weekend...)
