SoM Developer Diary #4 | Posted at 03:40 PM 05 December 2015
This week, Natsume posted their fourth Developer's Diary for Harvest Moon: Seeds of Memories. In this entry, Producer Taka outlined his plan for the version of the game dedicated to Apple devices (e.g., iPhone and iPad), with information about the Android, PC, and WiiU platforms to come at a later time. Finally, some screen shots of the iOS version being released in late December or early January! (Holy smokes, so soon? I'm not done with the Lost Valley or Story of Seasons guides yet!) The plan for the game is to make a fully-playable experience without the need to download updates or connect to a remote server like many mobile games require. Taka writes that the game does not require an online data connection once players download and install the game to their supported mobile devices. All of the typical Harvest Moon features, such as foraging, fishing, cooking, and relationships, would be part of the download package. This means that players can play Seeds of Memories without needing a data connection. That's a big plus for many players, as not everyone's iPad has a mobile data plan. It may also mean that for the sake of file size and device compatibility, I wouldn't be expecting highly-detailed graphics, voiced characters, movies, or anything else that might inflate the game's size beyond what our little devices can handle. It looks like the friendship meter will be music notes instead heart markers, which appear next to the person's name when you talk to him or her. The time is displayed in AM/PM and not a 24-hour clock, plus being marked in 1-minute increments. The chickens can go outside (they could not leave their barn in Lost Valley), and there appears to be some way of increasing max stamina levels. On the flip side, it looks like some of the characters are still a little bobblehead heavy. The playable farmer, Luke, Catherine, and Tony appear proportionally fine, but it looks like Brutus and Tabitha could easily fall forward with a little bit of a gentle push from behind. If there's a "Tip the Tabitha" mini game included, then that might explain the World's Number One Witch's head size; alternatively, it might be that her lofty ego has inflated her head to be that large. Pricing information for the mobile game and a fixed release date will come later! In Japan, from December 9 to December 16, the Japanese digital 3DS eShop versions of Story of Seasons and Return to Popolocrois: A Story of Seasons Fairytale will be on sale for about 50% off. SoS temporarily drops from 5184 Yen ($42 USD) to 2500 Yen ($20 USD), and Popolo drops from 5940 Yen ($48 USD) to 2900 Yen ($23 USD). Until next time! - Cher (I've holiday parties the next three weekends that'll limit farming time! It's only for a few weeks though.)
