Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea
for Nintendo Switch 1 and Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Steam, and XBox S/X
Harvest Moon: Echoes of Teradea is an open-world farming and exploration game published by Natsume Inc. along with its long-term development partner, Imagica Geeq. This game is styled similarly to Natsume's previous game, Harvest Moon: The Winds of Anthos (Game Guide), with enhancements such as climbing to reach higher areas, finding hidden caves, more character customization options, mini-challenge puzzles, new marriage candidates, and more. Returning features include outdoor camping, animal companions, in-game photography, traveling merchants, crop mutations, seasonal towns, and the magnificent Doc Jr.
The Game's Story
Long ago, the world of Teradea was peaceful, until a strange mist from the Forest of Echoes covered the world. Now there are ocean storms, vicious wild animals, and other dangers lurking behind the hills and waterways. The protagonist's hometown of Bloomfield Village has its own issues with wild wolves roaming the outskirts of town at night. The existence of the pack's massive leader keeps the townsfolk within the confines of their farming community, daring not to venture outside at night.
Take the role of a youth from Bloomfield who teams up with the pint-sized Harvest Goddess to discover what happened to the 4 guardian spirits of Teradea. While Bloomfield has a feral dog problem, the other towns also need help from a strong-hearted person and their tiny floating, blue-haired sidekick. Figure out why there are storms ravaging the oceanside port of Tidewind, investigate the source of the earthquakes that cause stress to the Quarrytop Village residents, and search for the lost sense of community in the musical Maplehill Town. Work with the other residents to solve problems, unlock secrets, and visit new places only accessible by ridable mounts and ladders.
Offical Trailer
The game was initially planned for September 24, but has been pushed to a safer October 15. Preorders from Amazon or the Natsume store (North America only) can also receive a small plush of the Bloomfield guardian wolf.
Preorders
There are a few ways to preorder this game. In North America, players can preorder directly through Natsume's online store or through Amazon.com or Amazon.ca. Preorders from those locations will receive a plushie Lupo plushie. In Europe, publisher Numskull Games is handling the release.
Another method is available only for farmers living in the United States. The Collector's Edition (CE) by PM Studios includes a phyiscal copy of the game (Switch, Switch 2, or PlayStation 5), the above-mentioned Lupo plushie, a Lupo flowerpot, a journal, a sheet of stickers, a 2027 wall calendar, and a packet of wildflower seeds (hence why it is US only), bundled together into a fancy box. This CE is limited to 500 units, costs $120-$130 plus $25 shipping (ouch!), and can be ordered directly from the PANAX Online Store.
The Switch 2 cartridge is the Switch 1 version plus the Switch 2 upgrade. It is not a digital key card.
Marriage Candidates
There are 5 bachelors and 5 bachelorettes. Players can choose any one of the 10 candidates, but can only marry one person. There appear to be 2 candidates per town, leaving the last two as a mystery AND IT BETTER BE DOC I'VE BEEN ASKING FOR A DECADE AND I'M NOT GETTING ANY YOUNGER.
- Bloomfield has the unnamed blonde bachelorette with glasses.
- Tidewind has Mara and an unnamed fisherman
- Maplehill Town has Shirley and Bryce
- Quarrytop Village has Hank and Lorelei
Game Features
The DLC features from Anthos - outdoor camping and a traveling pet that has helpful abilities - are returning in Teradea. No info yet as to whether the post-launch treasure hunt mechanic is also bring included in Teradea, but it may be a safe bet to assume that it'll be around in some form. Additionally, the wild animals can attack (instead of run away like in Anothos).
Whereas Anthos did not have a way to jump down from higher areas (you had to walk back down the path even on the smallest hill), Teradea has that functionality. There are also new hidden areas that contain treasure chests, requiring players to climb ladders/vines and explore cliffsides. A rideable mount will be necessary to jump over large crevases and reach new areas.
Golden Wisps for upgrading inventory space are back, though a little different this time. Instead of simply floating there until discovered, the wisps are hidden in Power Statues (e.g., the little goddess statues used for fast travel in Anthos). Each statue will have a puzzle to solve, with the reward being the Golden Wisps' power fruit. No idea yet if there are 100 of these like in Anthos or if the number has been reduced to a more reasonable quantity.
Happilia is a new gaugue of game progress in Teradea. This is assumed to be similar to Happiness from HM: Home Sweet Home. In that game, the in-game actions (shipping, gift giving, etc.) will earn points at the end of the day, with story progress based on the amount of points/sand collected. How the Teradea version of happiness is used hasn't been highlighted yet, but it may be tied to cultural levels of the towns.
Each of the four guardian spirits seem to be associated with a special Spirit Tree. The local Spirit Tree of Spring around Bloomfield has been shown in media to be bare, which most likely needs to be restored for the Tiny Harvest Goddess to regain her powers. The four guardians are the wolf Lupo (Spring), Harvest Sprite Aestas (Summer), Harvest Sprite Autumnus (Fall), and an unnamed fellow for Winter. While Aestas and Autumnus from Anthos haven't been officially announced yet, their sillouettes are seen in one of the videos released by Natsume.
