In Japanese culture, the number 4 is concidered bad luck. Sort of how those of us in the
west concider the number 7 to be unlucky. In the Japanese version of the game if you watch
tv at 4:44, the channel will display nothing but "4 HOUR 44 MINUTES" over and over again.
After about 10 seconds it will stop automatically and you can continue playing.
The event is there in the English version too, but it's not converted correctly. You can watch the tv at 4:44, but instead of "4:44 4:44" flashing over the screen, your game will throw itself into a loop of opening and closing the dialog box. The only way to get out of it is to turn off your Gameboy and start from where you last saved.
You can tell if it is 4:44 by checking the clock in your farmhouse. You can buy the clock off of the Tv Shopping show on Saturdays.
