A few games really are just the case, but they're still a rarity, ime...most physical games you buy really do have the game on a cartridge in there. And how much of the game will install onto the Switch even off of a hard copy varies by game, though of the games I've got, almost nothing seems to install off the cartridge onto the Switch. (Though when a game has DLC, that all goes onto the Switch, of course, like with BotW or Xenoblade 2...or Pokemon or Fire Emblem.) I've never had much problem with memory space...I upgraded once and just copied my files over to the new card and was good to go. I buy...hmm. I'm not sure precisely, but I think a fair bit more more digital than physical. I have 20+ games on this card and I still have 162 GB of free space (it's a 256GB card, I think.) All save data from every game, even games I have now deleted, is still on my system memory, and I still have 15 GB remaining. (You have to deliberately delete save data...it will remain even if you delete the rest of the game data. I have 34 games' worth of save data on my system right now.)
I don't know if that information is of any help or not, though.
