Console: Nintendo DS
Release dates:

- Europe: 2008

- Famitsu #932, page 203

- Famitsu, page 236

General Information:
- This is the 4th HM game for the Nintendo DS system (HMDS, HMDS for girl, and Rune Factory)
- The game is very much like Magical Melody for Gamecube. The same plant and animal graphics are utilized
- You can choose to play as a boy character named Mark, or a girl character named Chelsea.

Gameplay:
- Instead of using the directional pad on the DS to control movement, it is reserved for using your tools. Press up to use your equipped Hammer, press right to use your fishing pole, and so on depending what you have set up in your rucksack.
- Movement is done by using the stylus on the 2nd screen, much like how you can control your character in Animal Crossing:Wild World.
- The Accessory system from HMDS appears to be in this version as well, since you can purchase a Beauty Box from Chen the traveling merchant. There are also no Power Berries in HM:Island.

Story:
- A ship has sailed off from a city towards a new land. A great storm destroys the ship, save for a small lifeboat with 5 people on board; yourself and a family of 4 people. You are not related to them by blood.
- The 5 of you land on a desolate island that was once inhabited but has been abandoned.
- Develop the land on the island and more people will move to your little world.

Characters:

Character images - http://www.fogu.com/hm7/

- There are 100 different people who can move onto your island.

- Yourself: Either Mark or Chelsea. You are stranded on the island with this odd little 4-person family.
- Tarou: the grandfather of the family. He is very old and wears the standard overalls and red bandana of the prior HM main character.
- Ferena: she is the mother, and she looks like a red-headed Lyla. Her family makes her very happy.
- Eric and Natalie: the children. It's not noted which one is the oldest. Eric has glasses like Rick, and Natalie has pretty eyes and short, red hair like Nami.
- Goran and Eliza: Father and daugher, the mother died when Eliza was very young. Goran manages the blacksmith shop. Eliza is just a child.
- Charlie and Chen: Father and son. Chen is a traveling merchant (like Won and Van) who sells various items.
- Maseru and Julia: Mother and daughter who run the animal shop.
- Lilly: A formal idol (superstar) who came to the island to mend a broken heart.
- Valts: Looks like Gray (has USI on his belt buckle instead of his hat). He specializes in animal trading.
- Danny: A Kai-clone who likes to fish. Has a pet black bird.
- Darshan and Cefina: Father and daugher. He is the president of the mining company.
- Pierre: An 8th generation gourmet.
- Roven and Ariella: The priest and the nun, who travel to the island to spread the word of the Goddess.
- Harvest Goddess: Who else? She still lives in her pond.
- Witch: The same not-so-evil lady from HMDS.
- Other characters include Cliff, Doctor, Karen, Popuri, Shiba, and Wada

- All other villagers are random NPCs. They have names and relationships with the other random people, but they're not part of the main story like Danny, Julia, Pierre, and the others.

Crops
- A new edition in this game is the ability to grow Rice. The crop was available in the GBC3 game but it hasn't been added in since. The rice can be planted in the Spring and then harvested in the Fall. It's very usefull for cooking.
- The crops you harvest will have an Item Rank associated with it's quality.
- Crops can be judged on 質 (quality), (possibly 量 [quantity] but it is hard to read), and 鮮 (freshness)

Wifi
- The wifi network will utilize a Farm Ranking system where you can compare your farm to other's.
- Voice chat will be included if you exchange friend codes.

General Help Information

Fishing Pole
The fishing pole is free from Tarou, the grandfather. Give him gifts for a few days and in return he'll give you the pole.

Wonderful Stones and Tool Upgrades
Instead of using Ore like in previous versions, in the Island game you need to collect colored Wonderful Stones and then attach them to your tools to increase their power. The tools you buy from Goran and Masell can have up to 4 slots (each one costing 1000 g, so a 3000 G watering can hold a maximum of 3 stones).

The Wonderfuls can be won from contests, purchased from Chen during the Winter season (randomly appears in his shop), or gifted to you by the Goddess on the 255th floor of the mine.

Red Wonderful -
increases the tool area by horizontal squares

Orange Wonderful -
increases yeilds (watering can = holds more water, milker = receive more milk)

Yellow Wonderful -
increases power (ie, axe w/ no Y.W. = breaks sticks, axe w/ Y.W. = breaks stumps)

Green Wonderful -
lowers strength loss when using tools

Blue Wonderful -
increase the tool area in vertical squares

Indigo Wonderful -
adds additional stone slots

Purple Wonderful -
earn more money

So if you wanted your watering can to cover a 3x3 square since it only covers 1x1, you need to attach 1 Blue Wonderful (for +2 vertical, 1+2 = 3) and 2 Red wonderfuls (for +2 horizontal, 1+2=3).

Wonderful Stone information

Heart Levels
The heart levels are the same as in the previous versions of Harvest Moon. Black Heart is 0 to 10,000 points, Purple heart is 10,001 to 20,000 points, and so on. All of the characters that have portraits (natalie, Chen, Shiba, etc.) are based on the 0 to 65,535 point scale, even if they don't all have heart markers when you talk to them.

Special gift = +800
Favorite gift = +500
Liked gift = +300
Dislike gift = -500
Hated gift = -800
Horror gift = -5000

Friendship Levels
The other random characters in the game (the ones without portraits that appear when you talk to them) are based off of the basic 0 to 255 point scale.

Liked gift = +3
Disliked gift = -5

0 Hearts = 0 to 25 points
1 Hearts = 26 to 50 points
2 Hearts = 51 to 76 points
3 Hearts = 77 to 101 points
4 Hearts = 102 to 127 points
5 Hearts = 128 to 152 points
6 Hearts = 153 to 178 points
7 Hearts = 179 to 203 points
8 Hearts = 204 to 229 points
9 Hearts = 230 to 254 points
10 Hearts = 255 points

Heart Events
Characters have 4 heart events you can view, but there are a maximum amount of 8 events that each has. Their "introduction" event ("hello, I'm new to the island") is the black heart event. Depending on how you answer each event, the path of events you receive will be different.

Example:
Code:
black #1 -> go to purple #2

purple #2
- yes -> go to blue #3
- no -> go to blue #4

blue #3
- yes -> go to yellow #5
- no -> go to yellow #6

blue#4
- yes -> go to yellow #7
- no -> goto yellow #8

Cooking recipes
Cooking is not done by the old fashion "throw things into a pot and hope it works" way. Instead you must get the recipe first, and then you can cook that recipe in your kitchen. Recipes are collected from the Diner's owner, Reina, and the Café's owner, Farinu. To learn a new recipe you must give them an ingredient. If it works in a recipe they'll ask if you want to cook that item. If it doesn't work in any recipes you don't already know then they'll tell you that they can't do anything with that item.

The Diner and Cafe appear in your town a few days after you have the first bridge built that connects up Town2 to the Festival/Plaza area. You then have to wait for the establishments to expand before the owners will start accepting your ingredients for cooking. If you try to give them something before their businesses enlarge, they'll tell you that it can be cooked but they can't do anything with it in their current place.

Once you have learned the ingredients required, go to your kitchen and find the recipe listed in one of 6 menus; salad, soup, hors-d'oeuvre, main, dessert, and other.

The special colored curry recipes come from the Harvest Goddess, when you reach the 255th floor of the mine on even-numbered tries.

Difficult Ingredients:
Buckwheat Flour (そば粉) - New Years Eve festival

RiceCakes (おもち) - New Years Day festival

Riceballs (おにぎり) - Rice Festival, Fall 24

Wheat, flour - Ship 100 of 5 different crops and Chen will start selling the wheat seeds.

Miso (みそ) - ??

Rice Flour, Rice, Reaped Rice - Grow Rice in your Rice Paddy (req. Yellow Wonderful on Hammer to access). Plant Rice Seeds in the Spring and harvest in the Fall using your Sickle w/ a YellowW. attached. Take the Reaped Rice (刈り取ったお米) to your Maker Barn and toss it into the Thresher Machine (脱穀機) to get Rice (お米). Take the Rice and toss it into the Flour Mill (製粉機) to obtain Rice Flour (米粉) .

Random Villagers

There are 28 villagers that have portraits that appear when you talk to them, and also 7 Harvest Sprites. The other 70 villagers will appear on your Island as you develop the land and buildings. The "random" people won't have any portraits, but they have names, styles, and even linked together by blood.

You can find them standing around in various areas of the island, but many are time-based so you can only see them during X time of day. If you don't talk to a villager for a long period of time then the person will travel away. The villager will come back as you continue to work on the land.
