I was looking at BokuMono Japanese wikipedia and I found lots of Japanese exclusive BokuMono. Most of these are mobile app games.
Pictures are under spoiler tags.
- みんなで牧場物語 = Minna de Bokujō Monogatari (lit. Let's All Ranch Story)
Some people know this as Harvest Moon Online. I've played this for a while with some people here in this forum.
Spoiler:
- 『牧場物語 モバイルライフ』= Bokujō Monogatari: Mobile Life (lit. Ranch Story: Mobile Life) and 『牧場物語 モバイルライフ スペシャルエディション』= Bokujō Monogatari: Mobile Life Special Edition
Spoiler:
It has boy and girl version, and player controls Pete and Claire, respectively. The character in the picture is Viola.
- 『牧場物語 Life & Love』= Bokujō Monogatari: Life & Love (lit. Ranch Story: Life & Love)
Spoiler:
- 『牧場物語 実りの島』= Bokujō Monogatari: Minori no Shima (lit. Ranch Story: Island of Crops)
Spoiler:
The character on the bottom left is Henry.
- 『牧場物語 ゆずり葉の樹、幸せの地』= Bokujō Monogatari: Yuzuriha no Ki, Shiawase no Chi (Ranch Story: Yuzuriha Tree, Land of Happiness). Yuzuriha is Daphniyphyllum tree (common plant in Japanese).
Spoiler:
The girl in the picture is Karen.
Information about the game. It contains the list of characters - bachelor/ettes and villagers. In order to propose to someone, you need to have both blue feather and a tiara (boy version) or a crown (girl version) adorned with the birthstone of the candidate you want to marry. But what interests me the most is that this game has second generation (your child inherits the farm).
Why these can't get implemented in handheld BokuMono? *shrug*
- 『牧場物語 みんなの街とぼくの村』 / 『牧場物語 みんなの街とわたしの村』 = Bokujō Monogatari: Minna no Machi to Boku no Mura/ Bokujō Monogatari: Minna no Machi to Watashi no Mura (lit. Ranch Story: Everyone's Town and My Village -male and female version-)
Spoiler:
The girl in the lower right is Sherry.
The boy's name is Māru.
- 『牧場物語 ふしぎな肥料とまほうの樹』= Bokujou Monogatari: Fushigi no Hiryō to Mahō no Ki (Ranch Story: The Mysterious Fertilizer and The Magical Tree). This one is a puzzle game.
Spoiler:
- Carrier exclusive:
牧場物語 for mixi(Bokujō Monogatari for mixi)
牧場物語 for モバゲー(Bokujō Monogatari for Mobagē)
牧場物語 for GREE(Bokujō Monogatari for GREE)
牧場物語 for dゲーム(Bokujō Monogatari for d Game)
牧場物語 for entag!(Bokujō Monogatari for entag!)
These ones were the ones that became the canceled Harvest Moon: Pocket Ranch.
Spoiler:
Someone please give me Pocket Ranch now *_*
Except Minna de, Pocket Ranch, and the puzzle game, most of them have features like standard BokuMono though they are somewhat limited: growing crops and taking care of animals, marriage, mining, and cooking.
Which ones are your favorites and want to get localized? (if they ever get localized....) *crying in the corner*
I really want Pocket Ranch, so I'm disappointed that the English version was cancelled. Minna de was quite fun as well, though it did get repetitive after a while.
Yuzuriha Tree reminds me a lot of SNES, and I like it. I especially am interested knowing that it has second generation, though it's not as sophisticated as RF2's.
Some of them look pretty rough though, like fanmade games.
^ This. I've never played them, but most of them look kind of like a watered down FoMT. I'm wary of mobile games in general and that one kind of looks just like Farmville.
OMG these are amazing thank you so much for posting these. They look super nice for mobile phone games. Hopefully they don't take up too much GB or data
Yeah, mobile game HMs don't really have impressive graphics, but somehow they have their own charms? Perhaps it's just me for liking old style graphics. I played some RPG-Maker game titles and gained appreciation for them.
Also, most of these titles were created around 2003-2005, back before everyone is using smartphones. The first iPhone was released in 2007. The latest BokuMono game for mobile was Pocket Ranch, and they looked nice.
I agree that Minna de looked like Farmville, though.
The reason these look kinda low-quality is because they're for older technology, right? They're not smartphone games, but rather for flip-phones, I think. The processing power and storage space of that type of phone was generally VERY low, so low-resolution graphics, limited color palettes, watered game systems, etc. were required for the games to even run properly. I once had a flip-phone that could play games and ALL the games looked like this, even games by big developers like EA. (They were also not very fun to play honestly)
Being said, I used to think I didn't want to play this kind of game on mobile, but after not completely hating the experience of playing Final Fantasy on mobile, seeing the quality of games like Shepherd's Crossing Online, and seeing these screenshots here (which actually look like Harvest Moon and not Farmville for the most part), I think a mobile HM would be pretty fun.
Though it would need to really make use of the platform (trading and visiting with friends and strangers? online marketplace/bazaar? multiplayer festivals? timed events?) and would have to let me play at my own pace without centering around microtransactions to progress.
