I with Kikki on favorite games versus favorite game series. I have favorites WITHIN the series, but in my all time favorite single game titles, only FFVI makes that cut from my favorite series. Xenogears had no other entries (Xenoblade or Xenosaga don't really count as far as I'm concerned), and yeah, those two titles are honestly the only ones that come to mind immediately, every single time anyone asks what my favorite game of all time is. Hope this made sense!

On favorite series vs games, my fave games of all time (FFVI and Bravely) are within the series that I love. I have favorites within my other favorite series as well, but I don't love them as much as the two games I previously mentioned. So I agree that favorite series means series of game genre that you like :)

I remember wanting to play it real bad back when I was younger. Finding out it was NA only was disappointing. Thanks for reminding me it exists! I'm gonna look up some gameplay video's later.
It's honestly great to know somebody else remembers it! I'd LOVE to see GOG pick it up, even if that's hopeless at this point. Now that I've been thinking about the game I really want to dig up my PS2 and see if it would still run.

To me I think favorite series are a sort of guarantee. They come with a certain checklist of things that you already know you like. For example for me...Metroid Prime and Halo both have space motifs and shooting, but I don't think I'll ever play a Halo game. It doesn't appeal to me.

There is an aspect of nostalgia (childhood in particular solidifies a lot of things) but the point is that if it's a game in your favorite series, you're essentially guaranteed to like it, even if you don't love it.

Oh my gosh, Neopets The Darkest Faerie! I loved that game so much. A year or so ago I dug it up and was taking turns playing it with my sisters. I never beat it, so I can't say whether I'd like the ending or not, but I loved what I did play. Maybe partly because I played so much neopets back in the day, but I just loved the world and atmosphere and the characters. Though obviously very unlikely, I would love to see a sequel some day.

Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons
Obviously or I wouldn’t be here with all you fine people! I’ve been in love with the series ever since I played Harvest Moon 64 when I was eight or nine years old.

Tetris
In my opinion one of the most perfect video games, and I enjoy tracking down different titles in the series to try all the quirky modes.

Pokémon
The first game I ever bought with my own money was Pokémon Emerald, and the series was a staple of my childhood. I’ve played it less in recent years but it will always have a special place in my heart.

Honorable mentions:
Fire Emblem - love the GBA titles especially
Super Smash Bros - the only game my siblings and I still play together

Most of my favourite titles are probably from my favourite series though, I’m someone with pretty narrow interests

I think for the most part my favorite games line up with my favorite series. My favorite games for the most part are multiple LoZ titles, SS is my favorite pokemon game, but I wouldn't really call any HM/SoS favorites of all time or anything. Possibly MM since its my favorite HM title but thats about it. Other games that are favorites but aren't in my fave series are FE: Awakening, RDR2, Assassins Creed 3, and Okami

My favorite game series are:

Digimon game titles, Divinity series, Mass Effect, Dragon Age, Rune Factory, Elder Scrolls, and Pillars of Eternity

My favorite individual games are:

Dragons dogma, FE:Awakening, Dragon age 2, Divinity Original Sin 2, Rune Factory 4, Skyrim, and Mass Effect 2

Honorable Mention - My Time at Portia

These aren't in order, but considering how many games I play, these are notable mentions since I have replayed each and every one of these 3+ times

I hope I can still post here since it's been a few days since someone last posted. Just needed time to see if this thread would take off and to think of an answer. :)

So, my favorite game series? I hope everyone's ready for a super long list and explanations, and even some possible series I might get into more of. I'm not sure if I can list any 'favorite games of all time', but I'll try. Hey, do you think we should separate our favorite series into childhood/teenager years and adulthood? That sounds like fun!!!

My favorite series:
Spoiler:
1) Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons (Obviously) - My first title was Harvest Moon 64, and I've played almost all of the older titles that have come out on older Nintendo systems and PS2 [PS2-era for me was teenager/adult, as I got a used system over a decade after it's original release]. :) I love how simple and relaxing the older titles were. No exact goals, going at your own pace [except for some earlier games], an endless 'year system' so you can play as long as you wanted, lots of farming and cute animals, and it was the first game that I played with a marriage system/aspect. I like the newer ones, but I didn't play much of the newer DS titles or A new beginning, or the orginal Story of Seasons. I found the blueprint concept hard and unnecessary. Loved Trio of Towns, though. [Been playing since I was 6 or 7 years old] [Had a small falling out period for the game on handheld but have come to enjoy the right games in the series again. Stupid blueprints.]

2) Pokemon - I love it so much!!! It was a part of my introduction to video games after playing around on my brother's SNES. So much nostalgia. It too me 4 years to actually beat the Elite 4 in Pokemon Yellow, trying on and off. So, I loved it in Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu when I bat the Elite 4 in one try!! Take that, childhood hardships!!!! I've been playing this series since I was 6. It's close to my heart.

3) Mario - Been playing since I was 5 or 6. Another one that's close to my heart. Do I need to explain further? Also, loved playing all of my childhood games with my mom and my brother.

4) Yoshi (Part of Mario/Spin-off series): - Played original Yoshi's Island on SNES, and loved it. Played some on DS as well. Never got the 3DS version. I unfortunately never played Yoshi's Story on N64 (even though I wanted too), but I bet I would've loved it. I guess you could say I recently got back into it with Yoshi's Wooly World [Wii U] and I'm currently playing Yoshi's Crafted World (Switch). It's so relaxing and fun.

5) Paper Mario (first three games/Part of Mario): I loved the first 3 games! These were Paper Mario, Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door, and Super Paper Mario. The direction the games took on 3DS and Wii U were really sad and I hope the series can return to its roots.

6) Luigi's Mansion (Part of Mario): So, my mom actually finished the Gamecube version for me. I never actually beat it.And, I couldn't beat Dark Moon because of a physical disability. I don't own the 3DS remake, but I would want to. For nostalgia. And I'm excited about Luigi's Mansion 3 as well.

7) Kirby - Been playing since SNES days. Haven't beat or played most of the 3DS games or the last DS one (Mass Attack) because of too many new games releasing. And I don't own Star Allies (I want it). But pretty much all of the childhood series I played are close to my heart.

8 ) Zero Escape Trilogy - Massive visual novel/puzzle-solving series. Absolutely amazing. So excited for Ai: The Somnium Files on the Switch (by mostly the same team.)

9) Nintendogs - Puppies and Cats are adorable. I hope there's an actual/official Nintendogs for the Switch soon. Until then, I'm super excited for Little Friends: Dogs & Cats

10) Ace Attorney - Another Amazing, massive visual novel series. Love all of them.

11) Fatal Frame (Known as Zero in Japan and as Project Zero in Europe) - Played every one released in the U.S. One of my first Survival Horror series. Super scary, but absolutely love it.

12) Yo-kai Watch: Love Japanese mythology/youki/ghosts and the gameplay is very different than Pokemon and with Unique Storylines.

13) Animal Crossing - Animals in a little village.

14) Harry Potter - The video games, books, and movies were a big part of my childhood. And Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts are both amazing!!

15) Higurashi no naku Koro ni - Loved the anime and manga. Being able to play them on Steam is so amazing. Probabl one of my all-time favorite series.

16) Umineko no naku koro ni - Loved the anime as well. So far I've only played one episode out of 8, but I know I'll love this just the same, if not more.

17) Others (Probably forgetting some)
Other series I'd like to get to know better:
Spoiler:
1) Rune Factory - Never finished the first game and never played another one. Thinking of picking up Rune Factory 4 Special and Rune Factory 5

2) Hakuouki/Hakuoki - Dating Sim featuring Japanese historical fiction and the shinsengumi (Played through most/some routes on the 3DS version, own the two games on Steam, but haven't played them yet). Might rebuy for Switch if released in the U.S.

3) Games made by Key - Even though I haven't finished a single one.

4) Sci;Adv series/games - Even though I haven't finished any either.

5) The House in Fata Morgana series - Own them, but haven't played them yet.

6) Others (Probably forgetting some...)

Well, Rune Factory jumps immediately to mind so I'll list it first. Liked the 4th the best. Actually the one series I can think that that actually got better with each new game.

Pokémon, played it with my kids and I have to admit … I liked it. Don't like it as much as I used to. When you hit about a 1,000 polemon the "Gotta Catch Them All" catch phase seems a little pointless. And when they started making pokemon out of household appliances that didn't appeal to me.

The old Harvest Moon, before the split. Just simplier times.

Fire Emblem. Wasn't crazy about the phone app game though. But I've played many of them on handhelds.
