How important is it to buy food and juice from the restaurant and juice bar?

It's my first time playing this one and my character is out, but they are so expensive. Do they actually do anything?

The food restores stamina so you can work more, but it's also just as easy to go to bed. Milk is only +10 stamina recovery, whereas wild grape juice is +30 stamina recovery. The lunch box recovers 50% of your stamina.

I guess I might pick up some food for when I start planting more crops around. At the moment I am in summer and seem to be making more money with the corn and tomatoes. So the pricing isn't too unreasonable at the moment.
