If I only fight monsters with my sickle will I get the experience enough to upgrade it?

It's almost winter and seems like grass is slow to grow but i need experience before i can upgrade it (i want to upgrade it with mystrile)

You should be able to simply swing your sickle to gain experience for upgrading its level, so yes, in theory you could go fight the monsters in the mine using the sickle.
