More on sprite rips: Has anyone tried Tile Molester? (I'm sure the site's built-in sensor will just LOVE that name!) I think I might finally be getting somewhere. In the face_data.bin file, I found what could possibly be Shelfer (the redhead) repeating in a row across the file, and in another place what looks like maybe Royd. I think maybe the file with the faces has one character's different face images side by side in a row, followed by the next person's face images side by side in a row, etc. (similar to the way they are in Chris Fritz's posts for HMDS and Island of Happiness). If I'm right, I might be close to being able to extract the images from the file. I've also tried Tahaxan, but it didn't seem to be able to do anything with the file that I think has the images in it.

If anyone wants to try Tile Molester, just do a search to find it, but it can't handle .nds files, so you'll have to have something to break that apart. Everyone recommends NDSTool, but I couldn't get it to work for me and used DSBuff instead (again, found 'em through a search engine), and I've started a discussion here about tile ripping this way. (Something I just learned while researching this: Sprite ripping usually means screenshotting the sprite and then erasing the background. When you want to extract the image straight from the game code, it's called "tile ripping.")

Sesshomarulovesme, I'll let you know if I ever figure this out. I've been working on it ever since you mentioned it the other day, but it's totally hit-or-miss (the person who answered my question on the spriters' board referred to it as the "fun, patchwork, held-together-with-duct-tape world of tile ripping") so you just have to keep trying until you find the method that works. And just because a method worked for a previous game doesn't mean you can rip the next one the same way.

I tried Tile Molester too, actually. I was able to find some "ghost" images of the faces, but that's about it. Nothing I've tried so far works.... it looks like renders are probably going to be the only way :<

well, miss anon... we all know you're not supposed to close it while saving... in all of the other games it even says to not close while saving... so i don't really think this is any big news.

Do you mean closing the DS as in turning it off? Because that's what I thought you're not supposed to do. But I didn't turn off the DS I only closed it, so I could save batteries and come back to it later...

Ah well. xP I guess I'll just wait for the English version to come out then, and go back to ToT. I don't want to have to start yet another game when the English version comes out.

well just so you know, i don't think the game will be out in the US at least till half a year or so, just to let you know, thats the usual time span i think. If you can wait that long, i respect you dearly. I don't know if i could've waited.

Thanks for all the hard work on ripping the images! I want the individual face images so badly! Yet I know nothing about sprite ripping. All I can do is printscreening the in-game image from emu. I tried looking at each image layer but the character images are in the same layer as the background. Much work is needed to clear out the background.

Wow... I just saw what might be the most uncomfortable random event in HM history. I don't want to completely ruin it for you... but it basically involved Crea, Nerine and Sania all hitting on Agi while he was trying to eat at the cafe.

Royd is doomed to remain within the walls of my tiny cramped house saying the same three things for the remainder of his sad, virtual life.... He doesn't leave on tuesdays/wednesday's either ... :<


And they don't even make you lunch or dinner or anything....

AND he never even goes to sleep!! He just wanders around the house till all hours of the morning... so I never get to see him snuggled up in bed beside me... TT^TT

But I saw in the credits that there are separate voice actors for 'child', 'son' and 'daughter' which leads me to believe that children WILL grow up eventually... let's just hope it's not after TWO « Snuggly Bunny » YEARS like IOH

Yeah I noticed that...

In my opinion the handhelds always fall short when it comes to life after marriage... at least EAM more than makes up for that. There are even like... multiple dialogues for each bachelor/ette, for each festival (before marriage/after marriage/after children)... there weren't very many romantic festivals in WB

I played through to see what life after marriage was like and I got some pictures of the daughter:

I'm guessing from this that there will be four different children graphics. A boy and girl graphic, and a blonde/brunette recolor for each!

Question: Are the characters listed on the first page of the topic the only ones that are in the game? I'm positive now that I'm working on the right file, because the images are starting to take shape now as slightly recognizable characters, but one of them looks like the outline of Gannon from IoH and there's one that kind of looks like Eliza, also.

I did get a couple of screenshots from the game. Here are Felix and the female player character (both on transparent backgrounds, if you see white, black, or gray, it's because of your browser):



I could've gotten a couple more shots of Felix, also, but that wasn't what I was working on. (None of the color palettes that I've found so far in the game files have worked, so I was trying to pick colors from actual screenshots.) Oh, well, back to the drawing board!

Edit: Okay, I think I've figured something else out now, too. The people appear to be like the animals in HMDS (see the first post here), their facial expressions seem to be separate from their bodies, like masks. Here's what I think is Erich:



At the top you can see his body in the green stripes, the purple would be his facial expressions, and the blue bushy stuff is his head/hair. I'm not sure what the blurry stuff in between is, possibly it's in-game code that doesn't mean anything as far as images.

And that's as far as I've gotten so far...

Chen, Gannon, Pierre and Wada from IoH re-appear in this game too. That's why you find their sprites. But I don't think Eliza is in this game.

I saw something about Pierre making a comeback, and I *know* there's no one in the game who looks like what I saw and thought was Gannon, which is why I asked. I might've seen Chen, too, I'm not sure. I don't think I've found Pierre, but I did see a blue top hat that I thought was probably Felix's. I know I haven't come across Wada yet. (I also haven't found anything that looks like the PCs, so I wonder if the main characters are in another file.) Everything is still distorted, and not completely lined up correctly, plus there's the fact that the colors are all wrong (obviously, Erich is not purple with Day-Glo hair). I can't wait to get this figured out, myself, just because I want to be able to do it!

I haven't seen any pictures of the kids yet, but I wondered if maybe what I thought was Eliza might be Anemone. It wasn't very clear, just the bow and the curly hair. I'm positive I've also seen Agi, but like Erich, it's still in pieces, although the checkered hat is clearly recognizable. I think I've also found Shelfer, a blur that could be Schmidt, Crea, possibly Merini, and someone in a hat, but I can't tell if it's Wilbur or Isaac. Oh, and I think both of the little girls (Sigyn and Laramie?), because they looked almost identical but with different colors. The problem is, they still all look like the screen shot of Erich: psychedelic-colored, scattered pixels. It kind of reminds me of the Lite-Brite I had when I was a kid, those light-box things where you stick the clear, colored pegs to make pictures out of lights.

I'm pretty much stuck for the moment, though. I'm going to show the Lite-Brite screenshot to the people at the spriters' forums I've found, and see if they can tell me what to do next. I did a search for "Tile Molester tutorial" and found LOTS of information, but not all of it is useful, and so far no one's done one for DS games. I don't think anything else is going to work, though, because now I'm 100% positive I have the right file, and it won't open in Tahaxan, and I don't know enough about what I'm doing to figure out CrystalTile2.

Screen shots would be extremely helpful, though, not only to make renders but also to compare to the game file, and possibly to extract the palette from. (Do you have any of Erich? He's the one so far that's the most clear.) I might have to resort to getting a screen shot of each character and then recoloring the blue-and-green mess, because I have yet to find the correct palette(s) from the files that were in the game. And I can't get any more, myself. Felix is apparently holding me hostage on my own farm, I can't leave through the opening in the trees at the bottom of the property and I don't know what he wants from me since he keeps repeating the same thing over and over in Japanese. I'm also having trouble controlling my character. She won't stand still, she doesn't want to go any direction except left until she gets to the edge of the world and then pushes against it, and occasionally jumps, and once I do get her going in a different direction, she doesn't want to stop. It's like when you turn on a console game with your finger touching the joystick. Plus, I don't know how to save!

I'll keep at it, but I think I'm going to have to get help from someone who already knows how to do this. Wish me luck!

Edit: Found part of the female PC! I found her hair and her hat, which are separated by someone else's face and body But at least now I have something with a matching screenshot to compare it to.



The one right below her may be the male PC, but I can't really tell yet.
