Wow haha, I made a REALLY stupid mistake, went to generation two when I was only level 8.
It sucks 'cause I can't really beat any monsters except the really easy ones. I'm just finding that it's taking FOREVER to level up.
By the way I built the workshop and have the forge, how do I level up to like level 5 so I can finally start forging some things?

I made that mistake too. xD Only I was level 9 or 10.

Fortunately I hadn't saved, reloaded, and leveled up before building the school. On your question, sorry, I don't know.

get a really powerful monster and let it pwn other monsters for exp

Just keep trying to forge an item, because even if you fail you get experience points. Just keep forging until you get a higher percentage.

What level would you guys recommend for going into gen 2? I don't want the game to be too easy..some challenge is ok. Right now im lvl 11, should i go any more?

I realized this too! Leveling in this game is quite annoying. In RF1 it was easy to get into the 70's... I doubt that will EVER happen here! I think I'll try getting to level 12 before I go, it seems fine. Plus, if you go too high, 2nd gen won't be a challenge anymore, right? =/
