Are there any tricks that might make catching difficult fish like salmon and char easier? For example, have you had better luck in one area than another or better luck during a certain time of day or weather or am I just going to have to be patient? I just ask because it seems ridiculously tough to catch these fish and it's taking me hours of non-stop fishing until my bag is completely full of other fish and I'm still not having much luck. I've repeated this multiple times. If you want an idea how many I've shipped 1389 gold worth of masu trout and 721 gold worth of chub and I've only ever caught one salmon and I've shipped 6420 gold worth of sardines, 643 gold worth of turbot, and 1860 gold worth of shrimp and I haven't caught a single char. And yes, all of those fish are fish I caught while looking for salmon or char. Is there some easier way or do I just have to keep being patient?

And before you suggest this, I am not using these as gifts for Dorothy or Barrett, these are strictly for quests and my shipping list so it won't do any good to suggest I get another item instead. Thanks in advance!

Herman said to drink wine before fishing.

Patience is the key. I guess if you aren't in the mood for fishing though, you could always trade via wifi.

Those fish just take forever from my experience. No special place or time. You'll just suddenly catch you when you least expect it.

Ah, I was afraid of that. XD Well, I guess I'll just keep at it. Thanks for answering my question guys (note: I use the term generically, it's not a comment either way on your gender), even if I don't like the answer (not much you can do about that.)

^Which absolutely sucks. 8D It's also good if you have a high fishing skill. Or a really good quality fishing rod that you have to craft during the second generation.

Well, my fishing is at level 19 now and I'm sure it will improve before I catch a char. As for waiting to the second generation... Well as the reason I need the char is for one of Yue's quests, that one is kind of out too.

Does charging the fishing rod help at all?

Salmon- Messhina Valley- Serene Garden-- from Messhina's initial save point, go left 3 areas; in the day there should be a buffamoo (cow) and at night a cluckadoodle (chicken).

Char- Blessia Island- Center-- from Blessia's initial save point, go up 2 areas; there should be 2 monster generators with yellow goblins at day and panthers at night.

I used Dorothy and Barrett as an excuse to level up my fishing, and I find these places are the best spots to catch them. I don't think the time of day or weather matters. My fishing skill is 26 and I've never charged the rod, so I'm not sure if that helps.

Thanks. Yeah, I finally managed to catch a char. Turns out I'd been fishing in the wrong spot. I was fishing at the bay at Blessia Island. As soon as I fished in the center, BANG, first fish I catch is a char. Uggh... All that frustration for nothing. I'm glad that that's over with though.

Don't charge your rod. Waste of time.

char is actually the second easiest fish to catch in this game, in my opinion. XD you're just not fishing in the right places.. go to Blessia island, the place with ONLY 2 crop fields and fish in the pond to the left of it. You'll get nothing but char & masu trout, along with the occasional branch and rock.

And for salmon, go to Messhina valley and fish by the place with a grape tree. Salmon ARE much rare, but you'll get one eventually.

Has anyone here caught a Taimen in 1st gen before? o.O I got 2 in Padova mts. Surprised me.

And also, if you were ever wondering, there's also a special spot for love snappers as well. I can't quite remember the name of the place.. but i think it's in Trieste valley, 2nd gen, a hidden water area where you cant see the water but you can fish. Yea.

About Fishing:

1-Fishing Skill can't help you catch rare fish.
2-Charge just help you catch bigger fish easier.
3-Some rare fish arrive more in second gen (but the're still have some except, the Salmon seem like more rare at second gen than first gen).
4-Each area have some special spot that help you catch rare Fish easier (like Taimen, Yelowtail...).

For example, at same area Island Port, if you fish near the...hm, what is it call, I don't now how to call but that is non-deep sea, you often catch Sardine, sometime is Shrimp (not common), Turbot (not common)... But if you try to fish at deep sea (stand at the dock and fish at West-South or East-South corner). You just can catch Rock (common) and Shrimp (not common, but higher rate than non-deep area).

Has anyone here caught a Taimen in 1st gen before? o.O I got 2 in Padova mts. Surprised me.

Yes, the Taimen often arrive at north area, right the upper monster ball, even in first gen or second gen.

Just a side note. In Gen2 after I fully upgraded my pole I was catching a salmon every hour or so off the end of the pier in the ocean. This started in Fall.

I don't know if this means they are easier to catch with an upgraded pole or if catching them in the Fall is just the right time for them.

I never manage to find that spot. Tried a few times and every time ended up with nothing and my stamina bar went all the way down. Does anybody have a pic to show where we should stand?
