I'm pretty new at this game and just realized it isn't like the other Harvest Moon games... So I'm at a lost.

1. Char can be fished at Blessia Island - Centre. You can catch Masu Trout here too, Char are slightly harder to catch but not too difficult. Salmon can be fished in Messhina Valley - Serene Garden, or Messhina Valley - Path to Mountain. Be patient as salmon are difficult to catch.
2. Yup, you have to raise FP and for the marriage candidates some quests require LP. Try giving them gifts (you can find a complete list of the likes of all the villagers, and where to obtain them, here:

3. Nope, not until second generation (when you get married... you'll see what happens, I don't want to spoil anything).
4. For first generation, yes. You can also get them as rewards for some of the quests.
5. You can choose boy, girl, or you can let the game decide.
