I found this a little unbelievable as grass is something I would imagine would NEVER die unless I cut it down too early. Or does grass die over winter?
Either way, NOTHING on your farmland will survive the jump. I would suggest, if you want a lot of stumps and foraging to do so you can get a lot of wood early in 2nd gen, to cut down all existing crops and destroy any plots (make them untilled, just to be safe), on the day you plan to jump. If you don't to worry about the stumps and stones because your tools are old and can't do anything about them anyways in 2nd gen till you've forged, plant grass on the entire field. This way when you jump, they'll turn to brown weeds. Untilled, mind you, but also easier to get rid of than stumps.
I also don't know about tilled land and whether or not it stays tilled in the jump. If it does, then I'd suggest just tilling the whole land and not plant anything, won't need to till it again.
It's interesting that you mention that part about crops... so if you plant crops in your entire field, chances are they will just wither and die? And not be "overtaken" or replaced by stumps, logs, etc. as they would during a normal storm? Unfortunately I switched right after Winter; it was like Spring 3 or something, so I didn't have any crops planted .__.
If you want Kemine I can add in a note about the crops vs no crops on switchover in the 2nd Gen section...?

I guess different people want to be prepared in different ways on the change over and I am not suggesting being over prepared, sorry about that

You're right... I keep forgetting people also leaf through the pages of this topic, so information posted here's in a good spot to be read and used too^^ My judgment was probably clouded about the preparedness thing, because when I went to 2nd Gen I was like barely prepared; I had enough money and wood but I didn't get the statue items and stuff ahead of time, cause I wanted 2nd Gen to be really hard after 1st Gen was pretty easy.^_^
