If you don't have the b-day of a char on the calender, and give the person a b-day present, will they still say thank-you?
Yes they will, and that will add their birthday to the calender too.

Actually, when some of the villagers told me their birthdays the game didn't write it down on the calender, so I had to wait until I could give them birthday gifts instead to get them recorded. Damn buggy game, don't they test their games for bugs before they release them?

Right, talking about bugs, I noticed another one a while ago. My field is being watered by monsters, and every once in a while a crop might lag a day behind in it's growth and the other 8 in the square become mature ahead of it. I first thought that the monsters sometimes missed spots, so I started checking the field for dry spots every night, but I haven't seen any so far and still some crops lag behind in their growth. It has happened once in a dungeon too, but at the time I just thought I missed a spot because of an empty waterpot. Any of you noticed crops not growing?

I have caught some more fishes in the pond too. I caught these in winter 1st generation: Girella, Flounder and Blowfish.
About the crops; I've definitely noticed this. I have two watering monsters, both at 10 FP so they should cover the whole field. But, two full 3x3 squares at the bottom right are unwatered and still in seed stage while the others are at the 2nd stage already. And the 3x3 square that's right in the corner, the top 6 squares of it are watered but the bottom 3 squares are seed stage too. .____. Any explanations?

Thanks for the fish; I'll add them in.

EDIT: Also added Messhina Valley Fishing. Other than the Salmon, that is one BORING place to fish. There are 3 types of fish. The first two types can be found in every single fishing map, and the third type (salmon( in every single map except the first two. I still have to fish at Messhina Valley - Altar and I'm hoping something new will be there...

I first noticed it in the bottom right too, but just the last four plants in the bottommost row. So I waited until they had gained in on the rest of the plants and started observing them, and they lagged behind again, even though they had been watered, then later on some more plants on random places stopped growing for a day or two. The only explanation I can think of is that when you advance to the next day the program needs to update a lot of plants and might miss a few in the process, even if this sounds really unlikely because machines usually don't do such mistakes that often it might happen with this bad programming.

:/ i'd suggest just watering the last few rows for yourself--it couldn't hurt to level up your farming skill anyway, and somehow the game never forgets crops if YOU water them yourself. So i guess the monsters weren't programmed that well.

Not true completely... I have noticed some of my crops lagging behind (that I watered myself).
And on my second file I usually use an unlimited water cheat so....

Well if you use an unlimited water cheat that probably isn't the safest way to go about watering -_-
But yeah, even if you water them normally it still happens (though a lot less from my experience so still a good idea). Can anyone confirm; I think it happens more often on your farm? Cause there are so many crops in a concentrated area it's probably most likely to happen there, rather than in the dungeons where it's just a few plots per map.

Oh, so maybe that's why. I always only plant half of my farmland full, and leave the other half for regenerating wood and grass.. hm.

I never trust the monsters tho. My harvesting monster has routinely left one crop out in the middle of the field unpicked, so i make sure to scan everything before i sleep.

My farming level is already 99 so there is no need for that. Also, I checked those rows, and the monsters never actually forgot to water them, the ground there was wet, but the crops still didn't always grow, I usually check that my monsters haven't forgotten anything before I go to bed around 2:59, but still sometimes crops lag behind.

I use an Action Replay in my second file :P
And that is a (legal) cheat/hack device used on many systems.
I do NOT reccommend it though, because any non-official cheat could brick your game (AKA make it an empty cartridge D:)

This guide has everything i was looking for! I wish i had looked at this one before the other two x.x couple hours of my life wasted reading things i already know. Thank « Harvest Goddess » this thing told me what changes over =D i wasnt going to bother training my skills, lol! Thanks for the useful tips! Although if you have any recommended training tips for killing time in gen 1, they'd be appreciated!

Glad you could make use of the guide. The other guides definitely aren't useless though! The information is much more detailed in those guides - this is just for quick, easy reference to fast information^^.
As for training... the Shadow Panthers (check the Monsters section for location) are pretty good sources of EXP for first gen. Also try bringing your wolf with you everywhere you go (except training, as it tends to attack and kill the generator which you don't really want if you're training on one specific monster), including watering in the mornings, because the monsters it kills counts toward your EXP.
