Cooking Festival Blues :/

I'm doing the Pot Cooking Festival. Unsure of what I should make, I decided to make three recipes and try my luck: Stew, Buckwheat Noodles, and Curry Rice. Each one has the maximum number of ingredients in it.

First Attempt: I started with Stew. Gourmet said it tasted like good home cooking. Ann won the festival, though.

Second Attempt: Next I tried Buckwheat Noodles. He said it was missing something. Ann won again.

Third Attempt: Last I tried Curry Rice. He said it was bad and that he would refrain from commenting. Ann won yet again.

I resigned myself to the fact that I wasn't going to win and decided to go with my Stew recipe, since it received the best marks out of the three.

Fourth Attempt: Entered the Stew again. This time he said it was bad and would again refraind from commenting. I turned it off before the winner was announced.

Now I'm intrigued, so I make another attempt.

Fifth Attempt: Buckwheat Noodles again. He again says it's missing something. Ann won.

I'm not trying to reload and win the festival, but at the very least I'd like him to say my cooking doesn't suck. XD Are the results randomly generated for you? He says the same things for everyone else, but when he gets to mine, he always changes what he says. Also, does using higher level crops in your recipes give you better odds of winning? I didn't use any this time, but I just might next time if it does. :3

Edit:
Sixth Attempt: Stew. BAD. Reset before the winner was announced.

Seventh Attempt: Stew. BAD.

It's Pot? Try Relax Tea; I'm sure it'll win.

Eight Attempt: Made a different version of Stew. Said it was good home cooking. Celia won.

I had resigned to give up, but at the suggestion, I tried once more.

Ninth Attempt: Relax Tea. G-O-O-D with the comment "This flavor is something only pros can achieve." Won the festival.

.......WTFreakingF?? So only certain recipes win?

It looks like it. Unless your farmer put something ~*magical*~ in that Relax Tea there.

Or maybe just certain recipies win, haha.

I made the Tea Leaves as opposed to buying them (if that makes a difference), and then the only extras I added were Wild Grapes, Strawberries, and Milk. And crack. I must've added that in somehow to make it magical.

Hmm. Maybe it's the simplicity of the recipe that won? Maybe my maxed-out recipes were too complex for him. XD In any case, I won, but I'm still curious about how the whole system works.

I don't think buying/making the Tea Leaves makes a difference, but someone could test this out. The extra ingredients, may of made a difference, yes. Actually, I'm not sure. Maybe I can test it out someday.

Maybe it is... I'm quite curious about this now too.

there are some recommended recipes on the bottom of this page:
http://www.fogu.com/hm6/chan6/festivals_spring.php?p=

The ones that I used, I won 80% of the time and usually I just randomly chose which one to make from each category.

I had this problem, too. It was the Frying Pan category, and no matter what I did, I lost. I guess my theory of more ingredients = more chance of winning is not true.

I'm starting to think the type of ingredients is what matters. The rarer the ingredient(s) in the dish, the more chance you win. Like RelaxTea is such a rare dish, you will win 100% of the time, I think. Ultimate curry has black grass which is "rare", since it comes from the mines, while white grass is easily found in winter outside.

With my problem, most of the dishes had simple ingredients, like eggs, milk, flour, etc - things that were bought from the store or came from animals. I could have won if I had cabbage, since it's a slow growing crop, and made something like Pot Sticker or Savory Pancake.

I could be wrong, though. The cooking festival is such a hard contest to win. Heck, all the contests are hard to win, since animal caring takes so long. >.>

Edit: Another idea, I think that making dishes that requirement other dishes have a good chance of winning. Like Ultimate curry and Mixed Juice.

Relax Tea is most likely 100% win ;D Maybe Gourmet has a tummy ache from all of the "good" cooking and the Relax Tea fixes him?

The animal contests are easy to win, i've won every one i've entered. Why can't the cooking contest be so easy to win?

I think Animal Contests are WAAAAAAAY harder than the Cooking Contests.

I've only won one cooking festival theme so far and it was the mixer. What I do is try to pick a dish that I can add more stuff to that would make it taste great. You can also try listening to those random judges after you make a repeat recipe in the kitchen. lol They might help you improve on a recipe.
