Do I need to have played RF1 and RF2?

Hello all.

I just bought myself a Wii *finally* and am looking into games that seem interesting. I stumbled across a page of information for Rune Factory Frontier, which looks good. I've heard of RF1 and RF2 for the DS, but I've never played either before. My question is, will I need to have played both of these beforehand in order to properly understand the story/characters of RFF? Is is a direct sequel?

It says that RF2 is the sequel to RF1 in ushi but for RFF it says:
Cherubae wrote:The only bit of information released so far is Ragna has come to the land of Tranrupia (トランルピア) in search of a missing girl.
So I am saying No at the moment...

Well, seeing as I have only RF2, you definatly do not need to play RF2.
The only real similarity beetween RF1 and 2 is the world (not city/town) your in and Ceci. (and gameplay, but that doesn't count)
I'm going to get RFF without playing RF1, so unless you realy want to get to know 5 people before you meet them in RFF, then no you don't.

You don't need to play them, but if I was you I would buy RF2 because it's a really good game

well, not necessarily, cause RFF make it player friendly for both who have played RF or not
but personally, i think it feels better if you've played RF cause that way, you'll understand more about old characters, why 'that missing girl' he looking for is so important for main character, and more references for RF that mentioned in game
and you'll feel more development and personalities for most of them too, mainly for Bianca, Tabatha and Lara
as for RF2, it's not much relation (or no at all) for RFF, except random, useless mentioning about Alvarna
but it's a great game, that make me fell in love to RF series deeper

Quoted for emphasis - RF1 is not neccessary to play before playing RFF; but it does add a bit of information to the story. In other words, it would be
helpful if you've played RF1 before playing RFF, but if you haven't don't sweat it. From what I've read, the link is a bit stronger than the one between RF1 and 2... but like I said, not necessary. RF1 and 2 are both great games anyways so I suggest you get them both^^.
