About the diamonds, although you already found one, I heard that charging up that hammer gives you a better chance for rarer gems/ores. I don't think that's true, though. I got mine without a charge. :/
Yeah, that's what you would think... but I just can't GET what charging your hammer does. I don't think it's that it gives rare ores, so you were right to doubt it. It doesn't appear to give higher level ores; in first gen I charged my hammer all the time and I always got level 1 ores. In 2nd Gen now I get all kinds of levels so it's hard to tell whether or not charging does anything at all .___. It might just be used for breaking those field-rocks, maybe it has no effect on mining... I've no idea.
