Questions About Grass and Experience (RF2)

I'm still in first generation and I have two questions as I approach my first winter.

1) In previous Harvest Moon games, grass would overwinter and still grow the following spring- is that the case for Rune Factory 2?

2) I'm in Fall and although I am over Level 60 and on all my maxable skills except logging and camping (maxed magic and communication) I'm only on Level 18 as a character level. I figure that I'm somehow missing the best place to fight or some obvious way to raise my character's level faster. Does anybody have any good suggestions on areas or monsters to gain experience on?

Thank so much for the help and patience of the people on this board. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1. That's correct. It will be there when spring comes around, but if not, it will grow in pretty quickly.

2.I tend to think that it would depend on whether or not you are using a certain type of sword. Some are easier to level up than others based on my experience.

I suggest that you go onto the second generation at a fairly good level because it's harder to level up during the second generation, but you're at a good start.

Thank you! I'm relieved to hear that my grass won't die. Do you happen to know which sword levels up faster? I very much appreciate your help :)

You're welcome. There's nothing more I love than people who are polite. XD

Grass: Even if there is a storm, some of your crops will stay in tact. That goes for the time skip before the second generation, too.

As for the leveling question, I usually stick to using one handed swords, but I've heard several times that two handed swords level up better because of the effort it takes to swing. I think it rather depends on what's easier for you to maneuver.

Just to clarify, sorry Midnight Lace, only your crops in the dungeon can stand a chance of staying intact after the generation switch, your field will be damaged all over. If you go to the school after 12 am you can keep your dungeon crops safe.

Midnight Lace I'm wondering if grass does stay, my reasoning behind this is when you switch generations the theory is dungeons keep crops because of rainfall over the years. I would say your field turns to withered crops due to season change overs which would suggest that as my grass was ruined it does not survive the winter switch over. I presume it turns to weeds when winter hits.

I have to say you are very patient Fishy to plan to go into Year 2 on the first generation, I'm just coming up to Fall and although I want to last the year to do all the events as Kyle I'm beginning to get a bit bored now - I have all girls to 10 LP and FP except Julia who is at 9.

My friend seemed in no rush whatsoever to get to second gen.... He loves the first one!
And about the sword thing, I don't think the sword determines how fast you level up, stronger swords just make it eisier to kill enemies.
Although, 2-handers probobly raise your weapon skill faster....

Thanks everyone! I greatly appreciate the help, but I'm afraid that I'm now confused- does grass overwinter or not? It doesn't make a huge difference, but I'd rather not have to deal with a field of dead things on the first of spring if I don't have to. Thanks again for the help.

Mm, actually I'm fairly sure that grass doesn't survive the winter. Right when it turns Winter you will see all the grass is dead (there's withered grass where your grass was). I'm not 100% sure on that... but I am pretty sure.

As for levels; your level is actually better than it needs to be. I found it a lot easier to level up in 2nd Generation; I transferred at level 15 and now it's Spring 30 and I'm level 34 or something. And I spent a whole year in first gen. The recommended level for switching is 14-16, of course being a bit above that won't hurt, but you definitely don't need to worry about leveling up. If you still want to though, the Black Panthers that spawn on Blessia Island at night are a good source of EXP - and yes, for 1st Gen at least the 1H Swords are your best bet.

Eh, I guess I wasn't looking at what I was typing when I meant that it survives in the dungeons, but not on your farmland.

We all make mistakes. I guess Marvelous wanted to make the 2nd gen harder by doing this.(It didn't exactly work)

Yeah, I know. Too bad there's Natsume to screw them up even more.
