Before I built the school, I spent days just fishing away until I got up to level 30ish. It was fun and I could sleep when I got bored and what not, and I wasn't wasting any game time since I could build the school anytime and it wasn't a rush. So, if you want, before you build the school, you can take a few days to level up fishing, communication, swordsmanship just so you have it for later ;)
