I see there's another platinum thread, but I want to keep this thread clean and focus only on battle strategies and team rating. If you need help in adjusting your team and find your weakness, or need help outfitting your moves, this is the thread for you!
Today, I only have one Pokemon to discuss, and that is Torterra.
Originally, I ignored Wood Hammer because of the 1/3 recoil damage that you take. I can't believe I overlooked at Leftover + Leech Seed combo. With Leech Seed and Leftovers, you really don't have to worry about losing HP from recoil.
I still don't like Stone Edge. It has only 5 PP and 80% accuracy. I'd rather stick in Earthquake and/or Stealth Rock to « Snuggly Bunny » people up. Earthquake for STAB, and Stealth Rock for annoyance and against fliers. Rock Slide is also decent. Neither are as hard hitting as Stone Edge, but Stone Edge will miss more often.
For defense, maybe have Protect on him to get a better understanding of what your opponent has in store for you. Reflect and/or Light Screen are also welcome.
Rock Polish is funny, and Sword Dance is just sick. I think Sword Dance would be better for a more tankish Torterra. Focus more on raising his defense (but don't neglect attack) and go for Sword Dance. If you have a Torterra focused on attack, get Rock Polish. One Rock Polish should allow you to out speed quite a few heavy hitters like Tyranitar, Grachmop.
Watch out for Ice attacks. Torterra's 4x weak against it. A simple Ice Fang from Gyarados can kill you.

O: Wheeew. Platinum. I'm planning on creating a team of Pokemon that all have fighting as a first or second type.
To keep it at least somewhat balanced, I'm using Infernape, Poliwrath, Breloom, Lucario, Medicham (Because Gallade's moveset sucks), and either Toxicroak, Heracross, or Hitmonchan.
I already know what I'm doing for Infernape and Lucario, but suggestions are quite welcome for the other four?
Also, as a tip, teach your fire types Grass Knot. Okay, it may not sound like a superpower, but you'll be glad you did.
In Wi-Fi, everyone seems to love the heavy bigass hitters like Tyranitar and... I've seen mostly ALL the water starters at least once. So, if you've been put in a corner by a Swampert especially, all it takes is one shot of the move. x4 Damage, PLUS the weight, and that critter's history.
Or you can just keep your fire types out when the Swamperts are on the field. xD It's a good backup, however.

Hmm, I'm getting the game once it comes out. I already made a team on a peice of paper.
NOYE*- This is my team for the whole storyline. It isn't perfect, but I think I'll do good with it. I'll probably give them their good moves from extra TMs in my Pokemon Diamond and Pearl games.
Houndoom- Flamethrower, Dark Pulse, Protect, Hyper Beam
Crobat- Air Slash, Sludge Bomb, Protect, Confuse Ray
Magnezone- Rain Dance, Thunder, Protect, Thunderbolt
Gallade- Phychic, Leaf Blade,
Whiscash- Earthquake, Surf, Protect, Ice Beam
Garchomp- Earthquake, Flamethrower, Outrage, Protect

Righto. He also has too many overlapping moves and not enough coverage against a wide selection of Pokemon.I'd understand if you were planning your team for the Protect/Earthquake scheme for double battles, but that's wasted on Crobat..
Billy, you realize your moves also conflict with your Pokemon's power, right? I need to stress this since the special attack and regular attacks work differently now.
True, true...Let me look up some Pokemon Teams on the computer and I'll see if I can assemble a different Pokemon Group.Terranigma Freak wrote:Righto. EDIT:I highlighted moves that I like, but what would you think of them having the certain move?
Houndoom- Flamethrower, Thunder Fang, Dark Pulse, Hyper Beam
Crobat- Cross Poison, Aerial Ace, Confuse Ray, Heat Wave
Whiscash- Ice Beam, Surf, Bounce, Earthquake
Garchomp- Earthquake, Outrage, Flamethrower, Aqua Tail
Magnezone- Rain Dance, Thunder, Thunderbolt, Flash Cannon
Dusknoir- Thunder Wave, Shadow Sneak, Earth Quake, Ice Punch
There's a lot of factors you have to look at nowadays when it comes to Pokemons. EVs, IVs, Nature, Moves, Abilities... It's kind of annoying...
But it's cool how everyone can have a completely unique team, even if the Pokemon are all the same as someone else's.
I don't suggest Hyper Beam because it can be easily avoided, plus takes a turn which your opponent could easily exploit... Hm...
I didn't know Crobat could learn Heat Wave either. O.o
Magnezone's use of a Basic combo is good, though.

Haha, Yeah, it's really cool how people make up their teams. Me personally, I always have a Crobat in my roster because they are my favorite Pokemon.R/X wrote:There's a lot of factors you have to look at nowadays when it comes to Pokemons. Ahh, don't forget though, this is the team I'm using to beat the game, NOT to go on WiFi and get my butt kicked by Pokemon way better than me! (Legendarys)
:C Only losers need legendaries.
You can use regular Pokemon just as effectively. My friend chucked her Lugia and her Mespirit at me, and I still won with my old Lucario and Swampert.
I suppose my favorite Pokemon is either Banette or Lucario. Though I love Fighting types in general, so that's why I'm making a team of 'em. xD

Ohh! Ohh! make sure you teach a couple of them Thunder or Fire Punch. You don't need the birds beating up on you...You should post your team up here actually!?R/X wrote::C Only losers need legendaries.

Okay, I don't have it written down, and my planning isn't COMPLETELY done, so lessee here...
Infernape;
Flamethrower, Grass Knot, Night Slash, Close Combat (Maybe)
Poliwrath;
Mind Reader, Dynamicpunch, Waterfall, Ice Punch
Lucario;
Aura Sphere, Psychic, Dark Pulse, (Blaze Kick or Earthquake, haven't decided)
Breloom;
Sky Uppercut, Seed Bomb, Thunderpunch, (Toxic or... Attract? Lol)
Medicham;
Zen Headbutt (or Psychic), Thunderpunch (or Rock Slide), Shadow Ball, Recover
Sixth Team Member, still haven't decided between the three I stated earlier.

If your Breloom has the ability Poison Heal, you should let it hold the item, Poison Orb.(I believe that's what it's called.) Instead of it losing health, you'll get more...You can even teach it Leech Seed to get more health back!
I was thinking about that...Billy-- wrote: If your Breloom has the ability Poison Heal, you should let it hold the item, Poison Orb.(I believe that's what it's called.) Instead of it losing health, you'll get more...You can even teach it Leech Seed to get more health back!
Not sure where I was gonna find a Poison Orb though.
Though in that case, Poison Orb/Poison Heal/Facade would be a good combo. :3
