I was expecting barrett's sound to be deep low too, but I'm dissapointed. But they do have a voice actor for Ray and all the adults.

I love those events with Mana and all the time where her Dad came and try to remind Kyle that he cant marry Mana, and no eloping...

I finally decided to listen to these. As usual, the Japanese voices are suggestive of very different characterizations from the American voices.

Alicia: Very different, more of a "cute" voice. She seems like a totally different person!

Barrett: He sounds more like he should in Japanese, I think. He still sounds serious, but he doesn't sound, like, fourty.

Dorothy: I never thought her English voice doesn't sound like a real person... and hilariously enough, her Japanese voice sounds almost exactly the same.

Mana: I like her voice, in both languages. But her Japanese voice is probably my favorite "style" of Japanese female voice.

Ray: He sounds even more female in Japanese than in English! Maybe because I already knew he was supposed to be a "he" I had to actively listen for the woman behind the voice in English, but in Japanese, I'd have to stretch my suspension of disbelief considerably to believe he was male.

Jake: In English, he sounds typically "cartoony non-human". He might as well have been drawn by the folks at Warner Bros. or Cartoon Network. I like his Japanese voice better: not so stereotypical, to my American ears, at least.

Max: His voices match, same stereotypes, but the Japanese is less abrasive, perhaps because it doesn't touch off a native cultural revulsion. Either way, its another instance where I have a slight preference for the Japanese voice acting... but the English is quite good, in this case. It doesn't have that "forced" feeling I usually get from small budget localizations.

Douglas: My first thought as I click the link: this ought to be good. The English I can tell just by listening that it's the same guy as Barrett. He's good, but the Japanese voice is exactly what I was expecting... sounding like the old wacky warrior guy... particularly when Mana is mentioned in the quote. Very animated.

Wow I hadn't heard the japanese voice before, but damn! Some are so much better that I'm surprised that got the voice actors that they did for the english version. Jake's especially -shudder- I also really like Kyle's voice way more, Barret still sound kinda like some old black man though -sigh-

Anyways, hooray! I'm from Australia so RFF isn't going to be released until October apparently. I'm glad this thread exists ^^
