How to get rid of that root?!

I've checked out the root but I can't get the cut scene to have the root removed.
Am I missing something?
EDIT:: Yes it is the root that blocks the way to Luke's house. Did I need to talk to Gill about it before checking out the root? Or does it matter?

You have to go into Luke's house and then go outside to get the scene. And first, you need to make sure Gill has told you about it first. If it's that root that takes you to Luke's house...

You activate a few conversations first. You need to go and push "a" on it first, as I recall, then visit the carpenters, then return to it the next day. I believe that did it for me.
EDIT: When you first visit the root, Gill should come and see you, I believe...Then you should go and see the carpenters. It'll make sense once you see the first scene. ;3
