Can anyone clear this up for me?

I already know about the grass factories and how they work, but I decided to try my own experiment.
Since grass runeys are at the bottom of the food chain, I figured, "Well, I'm sure they can live alone. They can self-sustain or something."
WRONG. They started dying within a few days. Now I'm thinking, what gives? If they supposedly don't need to eat any runeys, why must they need the water runeys there in order to thrive? Do they need at least another kind of runey to live? Would I be able to use rock runeys and get the same effect since they don't eat the grass?
Also, I noticed that my grass runeys stop growing in population after I leave the grass factory alone for a few days. So, I guess there needs to be a ton of water runeys to make some grass?
Sorry for all the questions.

Grass runeys will always die out. No matter if you have all the area's at prosperity, so a grass factory is key. Read Kupo's guide, it's very useful.

I know that they usually die while there are tree runeys eating them, but when ONLY waters are with them, they actually thrive and then level off and don't die off. Right?
And, I've already read his guide.

Once an area is in Prosperity, the Water, Stone and Tree Runey populations in that area will only increase. Grass Runeys however will decrease by two every day, so you'll need a Grass Factory (see section 8 please) to sustain the grass runey population. If Grass Runeys drop below 40, Tree Runeys will also start to decrease, so keep the all areas above 40 at all times!
^^; Grass always decreases no matter what. And if you only have water and grass they will both die off o_o; Because water needs Stone and grass just dies off naturally.

I guess I see..
But, why do 60 water runeys need to be there in order for the grass factory to work? That's the thing I don't understand. I know that the grass factory DOES work, but I don't know how.
Nevermind, I'm just confusing myself.

I was going to explain the philosophy behind Grass Factories in my guide but chose not to; Grass Factories were not my idea so I didn't feel right going in depth with them. Plus the guide is already a bit lengthy so I didn't want to stretch it out more.
Anyways, the point is... Grass Runeys increase in proportion to their percentage vs. other runeys. For example if there are only a few Grass Runeys and many other runeys, Grass Runey population will increase. If there are tons of Grass Runeys but no other kinds of runeys, Grass runeys will decrease. That's why when Water Runey population drops or ceases to exist, Grass Runeys are no longer produced because there are more of them in proportion to the other types.
Water runeys are used because you can get a lot of them at the beginning of the game when you just start with Runeys and they tend to dominate areas so chances are you'll have extras. If you want a faster increase in Grass Runeys you can add more stone runeys (then there are less grass runeys compared to other types). Don't use tree though because they eat grass -_-
Optimally a grass factory would have 60 water, 60 stone and around 10 grass. But supplying that many runeys every day can be inconvenient so you can make do with just water (you can also use stone though I haven't tried it, it should work theoretically).

THANK YOU! That answered my question.
I have plenty of stone runeys to use from my areas in prosperity, so I'll have to try that out.
Thanks again.
