Give him presents (flour, oil) until he gives you a recipe and you can go into church before 10:00 am. Then go into church on a wednesday between 4 and 8 pm. There will be an event with Carter and Zack. After this event go out of the church and reenter. Now you can go into the church garden.

I give him fish everyday, he says "may the harvest goddess bless you," no event yet, ill have to wait, its spring.

Try eggs. It's one of his easiest-to-acquire favorites. When he says, "I get no salary, so things like this are appreciated." it's one of his favorite things.

Once he starts talking about a father , then he try's to do a fail attempt to scare you.

Then randomly go in the second door.

Some truffles and mushrooms will be growing there.

Just checked the site, its actually 150g. I would save them though, becasue they give 10 statima and take away 10 fatigue, a lot for a piece of grass.

First time I played through this game, I only gave Carter gifts until the door opened, then never gave him anything again, and it never closed, so I don't think that ever happens. Of course, I spoke to him almost every day in Winter and Fall, because, you know, might as well if you're already there.

As far as it not opening at all, I dunno. Have you triggered his other events? They may be a prerequisite. And, though I really doubt this is the case, Cliff having the Winery job may be necessary. It could be a reason for the event coming in the Fall. That's probably not right, though.

Cliff's job is not required to unlock the door.

Listening to his stories is essentially talking to him, which I think raises friendship.
I don't think confessing raises it.
He always seems pissy when I confess. ._.

i always thought if you talked to a potential wife twice it would raise their love points and FP but not anyone else
