Apparantly if theres an event, you have to introduce yourself to the people in the event first.

maybe I just skipped the event by going everywhere...? I don't know really... I done it the HM SNES way lol
1st day, you have to go EVERYWHERE in the town, and you can't leave until you've spoken to everyone lol
I was still very much into HM SNES when I bought this game, so I guess that's why I spoke to everyone lol

Or maybe he just has to see you, like you walk in to his place, or something.

he is at the spring/spa with May once a week, and you may have spoken to him there...
but I'm sure a previous post said something about talking to him both over and behind the counter...?

You have to meet Barley, first. ^^; And no, that does NOT mean just giving him gifts from the VERY first time that you see him and never PROPERLY introducing yourself to him; some people have done that and then they NEVER talk to him except for seeing his gift dialogue when giving him a gift, and then they wonder why they can't get the horse and then one day they actually DO talk to him without a gift, and they get the horse. ^^;

Phew! *takes a DEEP breath* Now, THAT was long; please tell me if I didn't make any sense! ^^;
