Rival Heart Events

Are the Heart Events and Rival Heart Events similar in when they happen? I mean, I know that the Heart events can happen anytime once you reach that heart level (Ex. Not seeing the Yellow Event until the girl has an orange or red heart.), but are the Rival Heart Events like that as well? For example: If a girls heart is yellow but you didn't see the Green Rival Event, would you be able to go back and see it, even though the girl has a yellow heart already?

That was pretty weird wording but, uh ...

You aren't the only one trying for a girl's affection. You have rival bachelors in the village who are looking to get married too! Your rival for Ann is Cliff, Elli's is the Doctor, Karen's is that dorky Rick, Mary's is Gray, and Popuri's affection is battled for against Kai. The Goddess doesn't have any rivals for her affection, probably because she's such a high-maintenance girl! Each fellow has Rival Events that can trigger when a girl is at a Black, Blue, Green, or Orange heart color. If you see all 4 events, then the two of them will get married 7 days later. You'll only be invited to their wedding if you're in good relations with the bachelor.

Yes, yes. I know that part, but that wasn't what I was asking. Lemme be more clear: If, say, Karen has a red heart can I still go back and trigger the events between her and Rick? Thus enabling them to get married in the fourth year?

I think so, as long as Karen's LP with you-her heart colour with you isn't higher than heart colour rival event you are trying to trigger.
But it is not possible for Karen to have a red heart with Rick automatically, you must trigger the rival black heart, and then their LP together will rise, etc.
