This sounds really interesting, I'm curious to know where this is headed.

Wow. Very nicely done! I will support you 100%, and feel free to PM me with any ideas you may have. I, Myself, have drew maps and made plots for games similar to HM in the past on notebook paper, but I could never really see myself taking it that far.
So are you looking for people who might supply ideas on townspeople and character personality?, along with optional sketches?

Sounds great! I'm especially excited about the "Customizing your own character" jig.
When you have a kid, would it take...how you say....'graphics' from both the main character and the spouse? Or will the child be randomly customized by a computer, maybe?
Anyway, good luck! I support this.

Lol, pretty much the theory that I was following. If anyone has any ideas for a 'proper' storyline, the lines are always open.

That hits the nail on the head right there. I'm more of a straight line thinker, I'm good at working out the mechanics of how things (should) work, but not so much with the character design, story, social aspects, etc.. These things are almost too abstract for me

Well, optimally, I'd have the child formed from 'parts' of the two parents. But some methods are easier than others. I may end up with a dozen 'child' designs and have the computer just 'pick' one. For the first choice, I'd need 'blank' body images, and things like hair that just fit on top of the blank bodies, then i'd need each hair design to change slightly for every 'age' the child progresses too. It makes for a lot of 'mix and match' drawing. I think I'll put off thinking about that one till I get closer to actually programming it.
I appreciate the interest everyone.

Good luck, and have fun in the process.
I'll be looking forward to the final result.

I don't have any ideas for characters myself, but here's a whole five pages of ideas.

Just a quick something before I head out for the day;
Sultet Plan
This is the extent to which I've thought about the project. Some parts in more detail than others, but this is pretty much the 'plan', so to speak.

This sounds interesting.
I can offer help with character development and such. I may not be that good with art, but as a roleplayer, I've had experience with coming up with characters. And I may be able to help come up with a more original intro, other than the ones Harvest Moon as already used.
If you'd like my help, the feel free to PM me.

When the game get's to the point of needing the characters and all that I wouldn't mind helping with character design, but not until you get to that point. The ones I make for that sort of thing are really detailed, take a lot of work, and some of the better ones sometimes may take up to two weeks to complete just to get everything down, original, and has a balance of values.

This is one of the things that has been discussed on my forum over at
DefeatThePurpose.net, we have two people throwing concept art back and forth, and pretty much everyone saying 'but I cant think of any characters on an emotional level'. We could use you

This is interesting, If you're still hanging around here in a few months, I may very well come back to you. But for people to put that much work in, I'd have to have the game in a 'definitely going ahead' state. At the moment, it's still in early stages, and may never see the light of day (but at this point, i'd like to think it will). We're just building a community for now, to bounce ideas and trial features, to help design towns and maps, on a more conceptual level.
If everything goes as planned, I may very well be looking for someone like you in about four to six months. Thanks for the interest.
When I talk about mapping, btw, I just mean making something like this
World Map out of these
Objects and
Ground Tiles. I have a small article explaining how to do it
here.
Oh, and, is it just me, or does fogu sometimes refuse to load?

For anyone who is still interested, I've just posted the first downloadable/playable version. Its only got partial functionality, and it's not a full game yet. But its the fruit of around 7 months work so far.
You can check out the release
here on my website. There is a download link at the bottom. Although, I would only recommend downloading it if you intend to leave feedback, as it is in the *earliest* stages of testing. (The reason I link to the page, and not the file directly is because the page contains ALL the relevant information, as opposed to the summary in this post).
Basically includes:
Two tools, the hoe and the watering can.
A scrolling map.
A run function.
Randomly spawning weeds.
Basic object interactions.
If you have any questions or suggestions, I'm all ears.

Is it going to be a "Real" Game or a "Flash" Game?

Ick, sorry I haven't responded earlier. I'll probably be here in some month's time. It'll at least give me an idea of some characters to make. I may check out your demo later though. ;3

The answer here, would be "Real". I dont know the first thing about flash, but I've been making
simple PC games for 8 years now. It'll hopefully end up on the XBLIG arcade on the Xbox 360, quite probably a free-er PC version of the game too. Depending on Microsoft's Licensing rules at final release time. But while going steady, its still a long way off.

Lol, don't be too disappointed with the 'rawness' of the demo. It really is only simple. It literally is just a demo, like concept-art but in game form.
