Okay, exams are finished, my holidays have officially started.
Ignition = on!
Lol, I've been programming deep into Sultwodee for a few days now, and I've come up with some questions I'd love to ask. But I really think I should draw up some diagrams to help me get the question across. I'm also working towards getting my website to *actually work* properly. It seems to have gotten rusty in my few weeks absence (bugs and spiderwebs, etc).
On the Sultwodee front:
HUGE ADDITIONS. But they aren't ready for your eyes yet. Almost though; I'm making this post because I'm suffering from something akin to writers block, but with programming. Some of the major new additions are:
Working tools: Hammer, Axe, Sickle, Watering Can, Hoe, Shovel. By working, I mean, it even counts the amount of stuff you annihilate with them. Hammer counts stone collected, Axe counts wood chopped (+4 for a tree, +1 for a log), Sickle counts the weeds destroyed (as fodder, but I don't think animals would be too impressed with eating weeds) , Watering can just wets the dirt at this point. I might take a few minutes out of my day to give the watering can a usage limit soon. Hoe 'tills soil' and the Shovel digs holes. I havent quite worked out what a hole is good for yet. Maybe for trees to be planted in? Who has any other ideas what a hole could be used for?
Smoother walking: The player-character now nudges left or right in an attempt to walk 'around' an obstacle, if its just not lined up quite perfect.
TIME!: I have a counting/working clock! I'm in the process of fine tuning it as we speak. (Things like it currently displays 12:0PM instead of 12:00PM). The clock is up and running, I just need to improve some minor aspects. Then I can start work on time based events. Like colour changes associated with going from night to day, etc.
Currently, we have five uniquely named days, ten months, and just two seasons. The clock will slowly count its way through the AM, then the PM, then it'll go to the next day, then the next, etc. All through the year.
Question Time (I want your opinion)
The game currently follows these rules:
The player is always in the centre of the screen, unless near the edge of the map. (so, the map moves when you push the arrows, the player technically doesn't)
When the player is near the edge of the map, they are able to walk to the edge of the screen. (so, the map stops moving, and the player moves, only near the edge of the map)
Maps only include the border. There's no 'black space' beyond.
If that's hard to follow (its hard to put into words in the first place), let me know, and i'll make some quick diagrams in paint. My question to you is this:
Would you prefer the player to ALWAYS be in the centre of the screen (like pokemon games) and have maps with extended borders, or black space beyond the unwalkable area?
Last note: I'll probably make a few more posts here this afternoon, even if there are no replies, but I feel bad about double posts, so please reply. XD
