Leaving chickens and livestock out over night

Hi I'm sure this has been asked before but I'm quite foggy when it comes to the area concerning wild-dogs. I don't want to keep wasting time bringing my animals in and out if the weather is good the next day.

I've heard claims that a pen/fence made out of stones and branches will not keep the wild dog from disturbing the animals. Especially if I'm away from my farm.

Does wooden fence rot in this game? Are there any material stone (which I remember in IoH makes stronger fence) in this game?

Actually, I think it's just Branches that won't stop the dog (and then again you could make a two layer fence and just move one branch when you want to get into the pen). The wooden fence WILL rot, so that needs replacing almost daily in some places. Stones are the best fence, but you don't get that many in the game, so you'd have to reload the weather to get some storms if you wanted more Stones.

Lumber will rot, but regular stones or branches won't.
Lumber, stones, and branches all stop wild dogs iirc.

Indeed. :washu:

Some branches pop up everyday in the forest area, and the lake area, you could collect those.

And you can also fish branches. Not as fast as gathering them, but it works. :)

Yeah, instead of throwing it away, you could collect them.

Thanks alot! :)

Of course aesthetically wooden fences would look much better but I really don't like having to replace it every single day.. (So much work!)

Will using golden lumber decrease the FP and LP of the villagers and marriage candidates? Or is it just an event?

Yes, using golden lumber will decrease FP (and LP for the marriage candidates), and everyone will call you "Moneybags" or something like that, instead of your name. The event happens after a few times, in the morning of the day after you put the lumber out, but then after, the event does not trigger anymore (well, at least, that's what it's like for me), but i'm sure the FP and LP will still go down, till it hits 0.
In DS, you could just use stone lumber, as a permanent, not FP/LP lowering fence maker.

i'm fairly certain that it was proven by looking at the coding that putting out golden lumber has no effect on how much the villagers like you, but i can't be 100% certain. :/

i also believe that they changed it in this game so that branches, stones, etc. all block wild dogs as long as you have a fully formed fence with no gaps (meaning that the corners also need to be filled in). it's really annoying to have to make wood fences in BTN, because they rot so easily. >___>;;

But it gives you a sweet nickname. ;)

With the question-- I read somewhere that putting your dog outside on a sunny day and bringing him in for the night raises his hearts faster?
Perhaps the same applies with other farm animals, but naturally I take them in at night 'cause I don't want them all cold.
/yes, that's right, i don't want to upset my pixels.

As for fences, I usually use stones.
They're just prettier. And stronger.

Personally, at the beginning of the game there are already stones in the field and I just make fences with those, filling in with pieces of wood or other stones as I get more animals. Do you really need to replace rotted wood in order to keep wild dogs out? I don't think I do, and my animals were fine...?

You can leave your animals out overnight and there should be no problem as long as there's a fence.

^I had rotten lumber once, and a wild dog came to my farm, I watched the wild dog bark at my chickens, I thought they would be safe behind the wall of rotten lumber, then I saw a :!: above one of them.
So for me rotten lumber does not work.

Ah, thank you. I'll have to keep an eye out for that when I play next.
