xD I like art that tends to be cute and has all sorts of girly-ness to it. (pink, frills, pearls, etc.)

Hiragana and Katakana are incredibly easy, but Kanji... Not so much. I've been studying for around 2 years and I only know around 250 [out of 2000+] ._.

Kanji is a real pain. Too bad they use it in HM.

Been there, done that xD

I could read hiragana and katakana before (but I couldn't understand what I read xD) but I don't remember anything now :(

I have to get back to it someday...when I'll find time...

Kanji makes reading Japanese faster and easier.... >___> It's really hard to skim a page of all kana, kanji has to be there to break it up.

For HM games, especially these recent ones that just came out, if you have the comprehension of a 4th grader (going by the kyouiku kanji, that's around 600-700) you should do just fine and be able to understand everything. Because of the repetitive nature of the text, even if you don't know a vocabulary word, you will probably pick up its meaning really fast.

But I also think that picking up a game when you don't understand the language whatsoever is pretty foolish. Using it as a supplementary educational tool, okay, but if you're not serious about learning (and/or don't already know), it is probably better to just wait for a localized version. It will take at least a couple years to be able to play this kind of game and not have to refer to a guide.

Well, I figured, if I can't play the game to enjoy the story, I can play it to enjoy just the gameplay.. =P Like, a Harvest Moon without any marriages.. LOL

I remember playing my first Harvest Moon on my Gameboy Color. No marriages were involved and I was addicted for quite awhile.
