I planted grass seeds, because I'm too cheap to purchase it. Now i want to get rid of it, but I dont know how. Also is it a smart idea to be growing grass for my livestock?

Grass automatically dies in the winter. If you want to get rid of it before that, I heard using the hammer on crops gets rid of them, though I haven't tried it myself.

I'd say it's smart for the livestock... each time you use the sickle to cut the grass, each plot equals 4x fodder.

Grass for the livestock is a smart idea so I would recommend keeping it for them. But, grass does die in the winter and I'm not 100% sure on a way to get rid of it before that, so I would say just wait for the winter and it'll be gone.

Like shining said, either wait for winter or use your hammer.

Also, it is an EXCELLENT idea to grow grass for your livestock. I only dedicated 12 spots to grass on my plot (48 pieces of fodder every other day), and since a full barn of 8 animals go through 896 pieces of fodder a year (hand feeding every day and not filling the bins), you can grow grass one year and skip the next if you like. I personally got tired of growing grass and have barely put a dent in my surplus.

I looked everywhere on the help site for it but I could not find the information..

How long does it take for grass to grow?
Does grass need to be watered, or can it be left alone like in the previous games?

I'll feel kind of stupid if this information is in the handbook that comes with the game.

1 more thing: It seems like you are all saying that the grass DIES during winter, and doesn't go dormant. So I have to replant it in spring, it won't start regrowing in the same spot automatically like in previous HM games?

Yes, the subject of grass is greatly overlooked in the guide.

Grass takes 4 days to grow initially (seed day, stubble day, short grass day, mature grass day), but you can cut it every other day afterward (goes to stubble when cut, short grass the next day, mature grass the next day that becomes stubble again after cutting, repeating the cycle). You cannot cut the grass down to the point that it is killed completely.

You just place the grass and let it grow, no water required (but I always water mine right after planting for good measure). Also, if a spouse/child is watering a field with grass, they will water it despite the fact it is unnecessary. They water all spots of tilled soil, including grass and trees.

No, it dies dies. You have to replant every spring (but as I stated earlier, you get four pieces of fodder when it is cut).

Thank you very much for the information!!

Someone posted earlier that they did not know what the effect was if you put grass surrounding a tree. Whether you would still be able to get the fruit or not from the tree when the time came. I felt like testing this so I surrounded 1 tree with some grass. It has not progressed past the seed stage at all so I am assuming this is a big no no. I have had the grass seed there for about 14 game days. I'm going to have to get rid of it all and find a different place then.. I thought it would be really neat to have a dividing line between my crops and my trees with some grass, but I guess I'll just find something else out.

Thanks again!

Yes, nothing will grow next to trees. Anything planted next to a tree will never progress past the seed stage. Period.

you don't need to buy recipes, just use the ingredients listed on site to cook it.
You can also find lots of recipes in peoples kitchens every season.
